PMS was running fine until 11/3/25 when it didn’t show up on my mobile device or Roku stick. I tried relaunching it from the server—MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015), MacOS 12.7.6—but the app would not stay open for more than half a second.
I tried deleting the app and reinstalling from the Plex downloads page, but am getting the same result consistently.
Also, when I downloaded a fresh copy of the app and ran it for the first time from the ~/Downloads folder, MacOS prompted me with a modal saying the app could move itself to the Applications folder. I confirmed this action but the app did not move itself to the Applications folder and displayed the same behavior (tried to launch but closed immediately).
I’ve downloaded the logs and attached them to this topic.
Please let me know what I can do to get PMS working again!
If you had enabled Plex to create regular database backups, you could try to restore the last working/available backup (usually it’s not recommended to restore a Time Machine backup of those files; those Time Machine backups are created while the server being used and therefore might have inconsistencies of their own → e.g. if PMS was writing to the database while the backup was going on) https://support.plex.tv/articles/202485658-restore-a-database-backed-up-via-scheduled-tasks/
Thank you! I used the Plex instructions you provided and was unsuccessful (“database disk image is malformed” error) so I pivoted to the ChuckPa solution and was able to restore from a backup!
