Plex Media Server Wont Conect or Update on Desktop

Server Version#: Unknown (cannot access Server Settings from computer)
Player Version#: 4.85.1

I am a very basic Plex user, mainly just around my own house. The past week I started noticing that when I tried to use the Plex web player on my desktop (the same desktop where the Plex Media Server is installed) that anything I try to watch tries to load but then if i pause/play something i get “Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error.” When I go into the settings and go under the server, I am able to see “Dashboard, Alerts, and Conversions” but any sections under “Settings” says “Server Settings are Unavailable”.

So I went down to my task bar on my computer and right clicked on the Plex Media Server icon and selected “Open Plex” but it immediately opens a browser window that says “Problem Loading Page, Unable to connect” and the same error is returned when I clicked “Check for Updates”. I have closed and restarted the application, restarted my machine as well with no success.

Short of uninstalling and reinstalling (which I hate to do if I do not have to because of all the edits and corrections I have made to file information and matching to make the shows and movies be correct) I am not sure what else I can do. Any thoughts would be appreciated, as I said im a pretty basic Plex user.

Update: I did find an article that recommended going to plex and downloading the installation file for the newest Plex Media Server and selecting “Repair”. I have done that but its just sitting at “Setup Progress. Processing. Initializing…” but has not gone any further.

Otto thank you. This correction has seemed to fix both the access to the server settings and the transcoding failure is not happening now either. Much appreciated!
