Server settings are unavailable. Ahhh!

I have no idea what has changed however I can no longer access any server settings. Plex otherwise operates ok from all clients.
I see other discussion regarding this problem, but no real fix that i can see.

This is a disaster! can anyone help?

I have stepped through the recommendations in this article,

ā€œWhy am I locked out of Server Settings and how do I get in?ā€

. . . . but it has made it worse.
I can still stream to clients however now I get a message that . . . .

ā€œPC08 - MS server is unclaimed and not secure
Claiming this server will associate it with your Plex account. This helps your devices find each other and helps keep your media safe.ā€

Claiming it just gives me he ā€œserver settings are unavailableā€ message.

I am going backwards!

I am getting exactly the same problem at the moment - unresolved- so I will be following this post.

Been fighting with this issue since i updated to latest version, i ended up doing a full uninstall and re-index yesterday morning and it worked fine at first, then later in the day now the settings are inaccessible again and it keeps crashing on trans-coding! WTF! i’ve been using plex for over 5 years and have never had an issue like this!

I have the same issues.

I have reformatted the PC, fresh insstal of win10 Pro, and reinstalled Plex. Claim the server and it all goes away.
Regressed to an earlier build of Plex that I knew worked, same issues.
Spent way too long trying to fix this, now looking at a Pi based NAS with PLEX to see if that might work.

I guess I just watch for an update and hope they fix it. Eerie silence on the issue from Plex though, as I would not have noticed anything initially as the players were finding the Plex Media Server, until I tried to log into the PMS on the PC running it.

Thanks for the feedback . . . . but no fix . . . .

This problem seemed to coincide with a server update that I initiated from the client on my phone when prompted and I have been in trouble for a week or so.

However I have fixed mine. No great expertise though, but i couldn’t sit an wait any longer. Here is what I did -

  • Backed up the plex data folders and registry entry.
  • Downloaded the latest server version and installed it.

I had immediate access to server settings but now, could see no content, no matter which library i tried to access I got the message ā€œThere was an unexpected error loading this libraryā€. (also seemingly a common issue on the forum) Following recommendations, this was resolved after a few hours with a library optimisation and library re scan.

All working well . . . for now. After many years of happy Plex use this was really distressing.

Lesson? If it aint broke dont fix it. I will be more careful with updates in future.

We have gotten two updates since i posted and I am still having the server settings unavailable issue, but now it also will not allow me to add any more media to my server and it will not transcode anything. gonna try deleting the settings folder completely and re installing/reindexing.

having same issue, any solutions @Plex.tv ?

Same issue here, any way to roll back to a previous stable version?

Same issue here after having BT broadband issues. Rebooted router and now can’t stream via Infuse or direct on plex.

Can see all my library and it is refreshing but can’t play on any devices and remote server has red !

Help!

Oops sorry meant to say running on Mac Mini

Same issue here. Seemed to start in the last two days.

Same Issue here, but it happens intermittently. The most frustrating part is not understanding why it’s happening.

I may be alone here, but I’m not Dr. Tech. I can usually figure out most issues, apply some code to fix issues using Terminal, employ Homebrew, etc. but I don’t write code and I don’t really understand everything talks with everything else to make the magic happen.

For me, this issue occurs with the new Plex desktop version, not the web-based Plex Media Server, which I still using only because I have been unable to get the desktop to work and without it wouldn’t have anything. (The web-based version now isn’t recognizing any new libraries I’ve added, but that’s a whole different headache…)

Anyway, I’ve reached my limit on what I know to do tech-wise but I can follow instructions. Ask me anything, I’ll answer. Just tell me what to do.

Thanks all, really appreciate your work, sincerely.

In the same boat AGAIN.

The issue started last year and after numerous attempts to fix the issue with suggestions from various forums I finally gave up and did a full delete (registry included) followed by a fresh install this week.

I came home last night to find the same issue has happened yet again.

Plex admin - PLEASE give us some attempts at resolution here as there are plenty of us experiencing the problem. It’s bonkers that I am started to contemplate Emby.

I"ve been using Plex for about 3 months. All of sudden Plex stopped playing on all my TVs so I tried the suggested fix and now I get ā€˜Server settings are unavailable.’
Man, I thought this program was going to be the best software ever but it has had all kind of problems for being around for so long. Mine has had encoding issues, play issues, unwanted subtitle issues (even two unwanted streams at same time) and nothing much seems to work like I want it.
All the days spent getting folders organized and getting movie posters added and getting everything looking great and I’m about ready to pull the plug.

I’m getting the same issue. Tried a ton of troubleshooting options but still no breakthrough. Anyone find a solution yet?

Now I’m experiencing the same exact problem! So frustrating. I just manually installed the latest version to no avail. Anyone found a solution?

So, has there been a fix yet? I am about to switch to JellyFin if this doesn’t resolve. This is crazy. I travel for work, and it’s nice to access my data remotely, however, for the past year, I have been unable to update as it would ā€œbrickā€ my system. Now, Server Settings Unavailable. Running on Ubuntu 18.4 LTS headless server.

Seriously @plex.tv Reach out and tell someone what to do. You offer no support but forums. No email, no contact, nothing, and yet want to charge people to use the software. What gives? Even my ā€œMatchā€ is not working now. It says there are no agents. I can’t check the agents, as the server settings are unavailable. I have rebuilt my server 3 times with your new software, and this keeps happening. I have used Windows Server 2016, 2019, and Ubuntu 18.4 LTS, and they all have done the same thing. This is not an internal networking or server issue, but a Plex issue. It has to be.

I resolved the issue for mine. I whitelisted the server in my VPN client to allow pass through and forgot I did so. After going through troubleshooting efforts I remembered doing so, removed the whitelist entry, and bam! Back to everything working nominally again.
