After updating to the latest version of PMS from 1.40.2.8395 to 1.40.4.8679, PMS starts briefly, then quits almost immediately (within a second or two). I am able to restore the previous version of PMS, fortunately. This started with the previous update and appears to continue with the latest.
I have attempted to run the update both from Plex through the browser as well as manually downloading the v.1.40.4.8679-424562606 from the Plex Media Server for MacOS page, unfortunately both processes fail when attempting to run the updated PMS application. I am running macOS Catalina, Version 10.15.7.
I can enable logging or retrieve any currently enabled that may help identify the cause. Any suggestions or direction on this would be welcome, thanks all in advance.
Hello I am having the exact same issue… I do not have the previous version file. Any chance you can help me with how to downgrade to the previous working version? Any help would be appreciated. If you can point me to where to download previous version that would be awesome. Thanks.
If you’re using Time Machine or any backup solution, you can restore the previous app that’s being replaced. Fortunately I am using TM and did just that to restore it, which ran without issue.
If not, there may be an option to download an older version of the app from Plex, unfortunately I’m not aware if they offer older version DLs.
Can anyone possibly provide any suggestions troubleshooting this issue?
I’ve tried the latest v.1.40.5.8829-d609c37a9 beta release and it’s exhibiting the same behavior. When launching Plex Media Server from the Finder, it displays in the toolbar briefly, then disappears. I can check some log files to see if there’s anything in particular that’s causing it to close, but I’m not sure where to look.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
Might be a corrupt database. Look in the forums & support articles for ‘repairing a corrupt database’. ChuckPA also has written a utility to help. It’s located here:
Good luck!
Chris
P.S. Look into the server settings for regularly backing up the database & notifications. It can be setup to notify you when it does a backup and when it can’t because of a corrupt database.
Nuke you set up and start again (you will not lose your Content).
Correct uninstall procedure: https://support.plex.tv/articles/201941078-uninstall-plex-media-server/ *Please note it is important to follow this exactly* The MacOS Home Library ~ is from GO menu, not from the Side Bar.
I believe Option 1 is a great place to start, use the READ ME file on download from GitHub for instructions. Option 3 is normally last resort if nothing else works.
Thank you both @CWallace & @SE56 ! I’ll take a look at both of your suggestions, much appreciated.
Odd that I have no issues other than being able to update and I’m able to optimize the DB just fine, but without even checking the logs, I’d have to agree there’s likely something going on with the Plex DB that’s affecting this, time to start digging and I’ll post my findings/results in case it benefits any others.
