I ran the recent update. The server now cannot finish startup and get to a stable state; it crashes and quits before that can happen, so I now do not have a Plex Media Server.

Any indications of what might be wrong in your server logs – you could zip the logs folder and upload it here if you want.
where are the server logs located, and i’ll upload mine, I have the same issue. I even tried to uninstall the latest version and installed an earlier version that worked. Did Not work; my suspicions are its related to the MacOS 11.6.5 update i installed. my Mac is old so cant install MacOS 12
Plex Media Server.log (2.0 KB)
It appears your database is so badly corrupted that the server fails to start at all.
Here’s the 3 steps that might lead out of this hell… if you succeed on a level, you’re good and don’t have to proceed to the next step.
try to repair your server’s database
Repair a Corrupted Database | Plex Support
attempt to restore the last working database backup (if your server has been configured to create those).
Plex only creates backups while the database is still ok, so the last one you find should be working. The older that backup is, the more data you might lose. The older the backup is, the longer it might also take for Plex to apply updates to the database model (so you might want to give your server a few minutes after restoring it).
Restore a Database Backed Up via 'Scheduled Tasks' | Plex Support
go nuclear, start over.
Restart Plex Media Server Setup from Scratch | Plex Support
went thermobaric nuclear and started from scratch. it’s been a trying two nights trying to use Kodi/Serviio Thanks. Oops hope im allowed to say that
I deleted the new version, downloaded the previous version of the software, and installed that. Everything is working for now.
I will check to see if there are signs that the database is corrupted. But given that the old version started up and is running successfully I am going to assume likely it is not corrupted.
You should also turn on the Push Notifications for PMS Database Corruption & backup.
Handy monitors for Admins!

I’m in the same boat. Latest update + added/subtracted media = PMS stuck halfway. Something jn this update seems to be causing issues.
It’s a rock and a hard place right now. I have a huge music library and it’ll take forever to redo from scratch. Fixing the database…Augh. Using a backup…yeah, but that’s a pain in the heck in a Mac.
Honestly, I’m less than thrilled with Plex overall these days.
I took path #2, went for the 4/19 backup, not the 4/22.
Started Plex. It stuck halfway into loading.
Have you tried swapping out the application contents folder for PMS from a previous version
I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. I think I need to do that over and go back further in the versions.
The bloody thing is being extra galling since sleep claimed me — it actually seems to load some entries on the home page. Doing anything with them causes the server to vanish yet again.
On the smaller server (mostly audiobooks and new rips) I keep being told there’s a server update. I go through the install steps…and it tells me there’s a server update available. I opted for insanity and kept trying (not expecting a different result, mind) and I’m to ~20 tries so far. I’m just going to do it from the server, which is on Windows 10.
So there is a correct way to uninstall.
There’s two ways. One just removes the application and leaves the data. The other nukes the entire thing, which is what I’m trying to avoid, though it’s leading to a nasty sick headache.
Correct, but if you have a corrupt database that can not fixed. Nuke or use a backup are the only options.
I went with the backup, which is…half working. It looks like PMS is scanning, but none of the clients can connect.
What OS is your server? Is it Mac as your in Mac discussion
Mac, yes, running on a Mac Mini. I’m about one OS update behind.
So if your on Big Sur, I’m having no issues for my use case. Meaning it works for me and is stable and fun to use.
So now have you checked your Security settings.
Checked, and the box was indeed checked.
I’m curious about the Full Disc Access choice. Somebody mentioned using that, but it then shuts off the other selection.
