Plex Media Service does not open on windows

Server Version#:1.30.0.6486-629d58034-x86_64.exe
Player Version#:1.60.1.3413-533a7645-x86_64

New to this so clearly posted wrong. Gist is that PMS stop opening so I check for proxies and use of VPN uninstalled and reinstalled the server and app with above file names. Selecting the server results in nothing happening. Help

The server itself only offers a web interface and an icon in the system tray.
If it’s running you should be able to open the web app by browsing to http://127.0.0.1:32400/web on the same machine or by clicking the system tray icon and selecting the Open option.

The player will only be useful once you finished setting up your server [edit: or if you only want to access shared libraries of others or Plex online media sources].

Thank you for the prompt reply. The link does open. The media visible from this link is different to the media visible from the app that I also downloaded. It is also different (i.e. 3 versions) of the same media source to that seen on the TV linked to the same media. It was this problem I hoped to fix by reaching the plex media server. Any clues what is happening here?

I should have also asked, what is meant by ā€˜finish setting up the server’.?

You didn’t give much information, so I assumed you installed the app but haven’t progressed any further.
Installing the app on its own won’t do much for you.
When you first open the web app using the given link, this should bring up a setup dialog where you can name your server, link it to your Plex account and optionally create a first set of libraries. Once the server is linked to your account, you can also access it from all Plex apps signed in with the same account.

Beyond that… I’m still not really clear what you’re trying to say in your previous post (i.e. ā€œthe media being differentā€, ā€œit’s different (i.e. 3 versions)ā€ā€¦)

Thank you. You have been helpful. Feel I messed something up somewhere and the best option is to start again by deleting my account and starting afresh.

No need to delete your account for that.
If you want to start from scratch, simply follow this guide… https://support.plex.tv/articles/201198426-restart-plex-media-server-setup-from-scratch/

New day and I am still confused (I am easily confused). The instructions at link states

  • Quit/exit/stop the Plex Media Server to ensure that it is not running
  • Delete the contents of the folder(s) for your operating system as noted below
  • Restart the Plex Media Server

But how do I quit the Plex Media Server when I cannot see it in the first place?

Further, when I use your first link to access Plex Media Server over the web I get this message

Add your media to Plex

Organise, beautify, stream, and share your personal collection of movies, TV, music, and photos anywhere, on all your devices. To get started, download our free Plex Media Server software on the device where you store your media.

Suggesting I don’t have the Plex Media Service yet I have downloaded the file and launched it.

You can stop it from the icon in your system tray or using the Windows Task Manager.

This message doesn’t suggest you haven’t installed the server. If this happens with that particular link, it implies you previously had a Plex Media Server installed that’s been linked to a different Plex Account. Therefore your current Plex Account cannot see/access its content (imagine somebody can access your online banking when signing into the bank’s website with their own credentials from your computer).

However the fact that you get to see this message means the server is installed and running.

OK. I understand. So I have a Plex Media server pointing to a different account so how do I associate it with the correct account?

If you remember the old credentials, you can… open the web app, sign out and sign in with those credentials – open Settings > [Server Name] > General and click the Sign Out button at the center of that settings page. Then switch users again to your current Plex Account (assuming you want to link the server to that account), open the same settings page and click Sign In to link/claim the server.

Shortcut:
Perform the procedure described in this support article. This will unlink your server from a previous account.

OK. I have done that. Of the four rows the article said delete the first of these did not exist.

  1. Highlight the following entries and delete them:
  • PlexOnlineHome
  • PlexOnlineMail
  • PlexOnlineToken
  • PlexOnlineUsername

Interestingly, the email shown in my registry I have not used in ages so don’t know why that was there. However, I have relaunched the web PMS and I get the same message as before.

You’re using the local IP address for the server (http://127.0.0.1:32400/web)?

Yes I was

Having discovered the old account related to an old email I tried signing in with that. Of course, I had to request a password change but once in I was able to see my computer files. The library was out of date but updating the library restored it. So it seems I had 2 accounts that were kind of cross-wired. I will explore to see if everything else is working as it should.

I would never have got here without you, thank you.
