my question is rather simple: ist there another path where Plex stores the metadata db?
Small background: I wanted to run my Plex server on a Mac Mini (A casual game + stream station). Since SSD space is limited I bought an external SSD and installed Plex there. I searched the metadata db on the path of the official Plex HP but this folder is completly missing. To test things I linked my music library and somewhere on my system is this db, because the free diskspace decreases when I add stuff. To clarify: the db is not here: ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server. I even tried sudo into this folder, but nothing happend.
Does this db has an specific name, so I could grep it?
Server Version#: v.1.41.5.9522-a96edc606
Player Version#: Not affected
<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>
The full path to the main Plex Media Server database is: ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/ Plug-in Support/Databases/
And the database file name is: com.plexapp.plugins.library.db
So if, for example, you ran PMS as user “Bob,” the full path to the file would be:
'/Users/Bob/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases/com.plexapp.plugins.library.db'
The Tilde ~ as it is known denotes Home or User Directory. This Library now days is hidden on MacOS. You can find it in the Go Menu when you hold down the Option Key. This is why you could not find it in the obvious places.
thanks for the quick replys. I must admit, I forgot about the ~ anotation in Linux based systems. It was a bit tricky, but I managed to get Plex up and running from my external SSD and it’s currently generating the db.
