Plex not plexing

Using an updated Mac Mini for my server. Plex is up todate as well.

If I go to the data directory folder ~/Library/Application Support/
which is correct in my Plex, there are no files there. Not even the folder. ~/Library/Preferences/ or even /Plex Media Server/

If I search my Mac for com.plexapp.plexmediaserver.plist
There are 0 results.

The scheduled tasks are set to back up and optimise everything every three days. But when I check periodically there are no back up files.

I downloaded the database databaseBackup.db372bd0a0-21df-418c-be52-2c5f1b09c3f8

Can I use this to restore my Plex if something fails or I switch computers? Is it useful for anything?

How can I get Plex to create these files? So I can save a backup in case my computer dies?

Hi,
you need to be in the correct Library.

The Tilde ~ refers to the Home Directory

Now days this Library is hidden but if you hold down Option Key it will appear in the Go Menu, Navigate to the files your looking for within this Directory.

So plex stores its data in ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/ on macOS. The database files are located at Plug-in Support\Databases and your log folder is Logs.

In the database folders you should see files like com.plexapp.plugins.library.db-2025-02-08 That file you downloaded is not the recommended method. Plex should be creating backups every 3 days. Lets get a copy of your server logs and see what is going on.

Thanks for responding.
So there lies the problem.

I don’t have a folder called /Plex Media Server/
In the
~/Library/Application Support/
Folder

I would like to share the logs. But it’s 54mb and 65 tiles

So your definitely trying to access the ~Library from the Go Menu, top of desktop and not the Finder Side Bar Menu or via the Macintosh HD

Yes. I have done that.
The folders I have are…
App Store
Apple
Apple Push Services
BTServer
com.apple.TCC
CrashReporter
iLife Media Browser
Livefsd
ProApps
ScriptEdititor

Is plex running? Almost sounds like you dont have it installed

I’m not sure where your looking but you must be Admin user to access the Home Library

It looks like this to start.

You need to Login with Admin Privileges, you do have Admin User access?

You did download Plex Media Server and not the Plex app for Mac? The Plex app is a Client.

Yes. Plex is running just fine. I can access it on my iPad and phone

Can you take a screenshot of where your looking , please.

OK lets start with http://127.0.0.1:32400/web and get a copy of your server logs

Ok even though I search the Mac for this exact file or I go to Library/Users/Myname the file isn’t found and I only have Pictures Music Movies file with my photos library and my music library core files.

Somehow I found these files. (Screenshot attached)

However there are no files like com.plexapp.plugins.library.db-2025-02-08

Wrong Library, that is not the Home Directory. Must use the Go menu top of Desktop

Ok and what do I type in on the Go to folder then?

Ok perfect I have done that and filled that path. Here is a screenshot of the database folder.

What path in Scheduled Tasks Server Settings have you sent them

~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/

But I feel like it doesn’t run.
All the tick boxes are ticked

That is the full path? So it would have dumped them anywhere in Plex Media Server Folder but check Backups Folder

Hmmm. There are no loose files in Plex media server folder. And I do not have a Backups folder.

Should I add Backups onto the path in Plex scheduled tasks in hopes it creates one?
