Plex Metadata not returning in Search for any Movie - Older Movies like Lethal Weapon Series

Server Version#: 1.41.8.9834
Player Version#: 4.146.0

No Movies return any information when I attempt to MATCH them. These are not new movies , but new to my collection, such as the Lethal Weapon Series and Her (2013). Running a FIX or MATCH generates zero output even in verbose to the logs.

I have restarted the container, verified that the ntp server has my servers time accurate, validated that DNS is working and within the container a curl issued to plex.tv returns the proper redirect message for their site.

I cannot change and use any other Metadata than PLEX.TV and even manually providing the information from tmdb like “tmdb-xxxxxxx” returns nothing and again does not generate anything in the logs.

Posted in another thread on what seemed similar after I had posted this and got snarky remark they are not the same issue to post my own thread

Update - Went in and switch my entire MOVIES library from using the PLEX MOVIE agent (not the Legacy one either) to point to TMDB. Instantly was prompted to UPGRADE to the Plex one and told it no and did not refresh my library, but as soon as I force the LEATHAL WEAPON 2 movie to MATCH viola it matched.

My server has zero errors for the PLEX MOVIE agent, but this has been going on for over 12 hours so no idea why that AGENT IS NOT WORKING, but TMDB is.

and… all 5 movies that were not updating then FOUND their information and updated everything once it connected to TMDB Agent.

Of course now the LIBRARY SCREAMS i need to UPGRADE it to the Plex Movie agent which is not working

Lastly… i have a separate LIBRARY for Childrens movies and it is still pointed to the PLEX MOVIE Agent and it still does not update the latest movie added and states NOTHING FOUND if you attempt to MATCH it

  1. disable Verbose logging
  2. stop and restart Plex server

Ensure that it has unfettered access to the internet. Check any firewalls or filters which could potentially interfere with this. If you used a white-list that your server is allowed to access on the internet, verify that it doesn’t block any plex domains.
Do also check the container configuration for restrictions.

If this doesn’t change anything, try the next step:
stop Plex server
locate the Codecs folder inside the plex data folder. Remove all subfolders it contains, but leave the file .device-id in place.
start Plex server and wait about 5 minutes
then try again

Okay the deleting of the items in the “Codecs” along with the Shutdown and Rebuild of the container (which I had done the later numerous times as well as pulled to make sure no newer version was sitting not applied from docker hub) seems to have fixed this.

I am pretty tech savvy (what I do for a living) and just curious why this would happen after years (and I mean maybe 7 years + of running the same server in docker with the only changes ever was my hardware a few years back) out of nowhere???

Does the .device-id file have some info specific to the server it is on, or something that would have “refreshed” oddly?

Appreciate the quick help and response to fix it just curious what might have happened on my end as this container is never touched except to by updated for whatsupdocker when it notifies me and I let it

Unfortunately I cannot say why this approach worked. I only know that it worked for a few users before, who had this specific issue.
The file I asked you to keep is necessary for codec licensing reasons. Please don’t delete it.

interesting… so were these users recently having this problem or was this a historical knowledge fix for users that seem to havethis arise from time to time?

This is a recent occurence.
There have been reports of this working for various issues before, but it was neither frequent enough, nor consistent in the issues that it supposedly fixed. Usually the users who did this were doing a plethora of other things at the same time, so it was never as clear-cut as it appears now.

Well thank you. My issue is fixed. I will say I am not very “active” with piddling with my containers unless they are new and I am testing things… this one has been static for years.

It does get API calls from the ARRs from time to time, and I have a manual script I run that updates Posters, Backgrounds, and Title Cards (when appropriate) for the movies and tv shows, but I have to build a yaml for each instance and run it manually and it is only done the one time to tell Plex where to look at (local image NAS repository not on Plex server) for images.

Thanks again… Ithis can be closed
