I want to start of by saying thank you to everyone who has contributed to similar topics, i have found information spread across a couple of threads but i wasn’t not sure if they completely correlate with my situation.
I have a ds218+, purchased earlier this year. I had one 10tb WD Red Drive and over the course of the year, it had become full. I purchased a second 10tb WD drive to expand capacity, but I was not very informed (an idiot) and realized that the system was in SHR and the new drive did not expand my capacity at all but just backed everything up.
I was left with two choices, back everything up and start from scratch, or upgrade my nas. I weighed the pros and cons and ultimately decided to upgrade my Nas to the four bay ds918+.
Based on other threads, it appears i can just migrate the two 10tb drives i have now and plex will run as is off that. I remember great step by step instructions on the forum when i initially set up plex for nas and was curious if i needed to go through that again on the new nas, or if everything including various settings will be remain after the migration.
question 2: I plan on buying a 6 tb red drive to work as second volume, if i understand correctly i can put it in raid 0 so there will be no back up? but my plex will be able to access the second volume for various files…so my setup will be the two 10tb red drives in SHR on volume 1, and for now a 6 tb red drive on volume two (I will relocate some files from volume 1 to volume 2 for better organization)
