Plex misnaming TV Episodes (wrong metadata)

I have never been able to get Plex to name the episodes for Magnum PI correctly. There may be other episode issues, but at the moment, I’m focused on Season 3. My naming convention is Magnum PI SXXEXX - EPISODE NAME.m4v - and it sorts them just fine, but it pulls the wrong metadata.

I have figured out that it is pulling the metadata from TVDB, which has episode 1 split into 2 episodes, throwing everying after episode 1 off by one. IMDB does not have it split, meaning if I could get Plex to pull its metadata from IMDB for Magnum, everything would be fine.

I have done the “Plex Dance”, and have set the IMDB agent above the TVDB agent, I have tried matching with the IMDB database instead of the TVDB - but no matter what I do, it always pulls its metadata from TVDB instead.

Any ideas?

Simply name the episode with two episode combined as s01e02-03 or s01e02e03 (both seem to work and I can’t seem to remember which is “perfect.”) then name the remainder correctly.

Or you can skip from episode 01 to episode 03 leaving out 02 completely.

Or you can use one of the many tools available to split out the episodes.

Any of those solves the problem and Plex does not care if episodes are skipped in the database it still presents what is there in the correct order.

I usually just leave out the second number for the extra episodes because Plex is not smart enough to skip episode if it plays episode 01-02 but rather it will try to play the episodes again.

I do find it extremely frustrating that I can’t just get Plex to use the information from IMDB when it looks like it’s meant to be able to - but I decided it’s better to go your route instead of fighting it and frustrating myself further. It doesn’t entirely satisfy my OCD, but at least the episodes have the right names and info now, without my having to go and manually enter it on each episode - which of course would be all for nothing if I ever had to rescan the library (ie, reinstall of Plex at a later date). Thank you.

i have the same issue im watching dragonball and suddenly after episode 3 it does not play episode 4 while it says episode 4 it is not actually playing it but another episode
