I just moved my Plex server to a new computer. I noticed that in my main movie repository, there at 2795 folders (each of which should contain an MKV). After creating a library that encompasses the entire directory, Plex reports 2740 movies. Is there any ‘easy’ way to generate a list from Plex of all the files\directories a particular library contains so that I can compare?
Do you have multiple copies of movies?
If not you could try choosing to view duplicates and see if any have been matched together
Yep @blim5001 tip is worth checking out.
Another cause of this can also be collections.
Depending on the setting five movies can easily become one when Plex counts them.
Collections are enabled by default if I recall. So worth checking if you have any trilogies etc… how they appear in Plex.
Thank you. This accounts for a handful, but not everything. Also, Plex is calling “Duplicate” on things that are not (like The Eye 2008 and The Eye 2002); any pointers on how to resolve this?
Thank you for your help. As far as I can tell, nothing is showing up as part of a collection; the movies with sequels I have checked are all showing up independently in my library.
Plex’s matching is just not 100% perfect, and it does depended on the online source data.
For example Bumblebee always seem to match as Transformers 6 and always has to be fixed
I guess I could ask for your exact naming for the 2 The Eye
Movies
Also you could have a look at the WebTools Plugin as this has features to get info about missing media. It can:
scan for movies/TV shows that are not in the Plex database or are not on your hard drive
I found the "split apart’ function which solves this, thanks again for the help!
ah yes, sorry I should have mentioned that you use Split apart
when you have found the duplicates.
You can then check which files they are and do a manual fix match
on the incorrect one
That’s odd plex is doing that. I never had that problem. I mean that doesn’t even match in themoviedb. Very strange.
Depends on the provider used.
Using Plex Movie it always calls it Transformers 6
Using TMDB it pulls it asBumblebee.
Thanks, this helped me solve the duplicate issue. Weirdest one was Chronicles of Riddick being duped with Tightrope, lol. I now have 2749 movies in Plex, but still 2795 folders. Still trying to determine an ‘easy’ way to figure out what’s missing in Plex.
As I mentioned you could try WebTools
Although there is no longer any ongoing development it does afaik still works, at least I still use it.
Oh you’re missing hours of fun not using Plex Movie Scanner.
Carefully name your files such as for example
Death Wish (1974)
Death Wish (1974).mkv
Death Wish (2018)
Death Wish (2018).mkv
Marvel at how Plex Movie Scanner will have no clue how to differentiate with such vague info.
It can be hours of fun when radarr (using tmdb)
names something perfectly and Plex Movie Scanner decides it’s something totally different.
Better yet when you do the fix match (still using the Plex Scanner) the correct item is usually at the top of the list of choices.
I would change back to tmdb but I’m up to date with all my sitcoms.
I feel left out!! You trying to make me jealous…
