Plex Mix Not Working

You are again, and this sort of proves my point, missing the whole point of this thread.

Yes, “dispelling random crap posted by people on the internet” is nothing to love.
This “crap” is posted by a paying user.
And from what I have heard in this thread (and “by random people on the internet”) I am not alone. The other people in this thread is not the only ones.

NOW you tell us “we made a conscious choice to drop Plex Mix”. If you look at the beginning of this thread - how long did it take before someone actually confessed to THAT?
And… and this is why i don’t quite buy your “we decided” comment - why did you remove the old stuff before you had the new functionality ready?
As I have said before, I do work in the software industry. We do deliver new versions of our software from time to time - and we NEVER remove stuff from our software and tell the customer… NOTHING before it disappears: (If we do, that is called “a bug” and we work 24/7 to fix it)
Making stupid decisions is allowed. Replacing things is allowed. Even removing things is allowed when you tell people about it.

You people sounded like “let us pretend no one said anything, maybe this will go away”.
And that is NOT how you solve “customer issues”.
Then, when you saw this was not going away, you started vague comments about “maybe coming back” or “something better is coming” - without telling us ANYTHING about what was going on.
And NOW, for some reason, we should give you credit for telling us NOW what we have asked the whole time “what is going on with Plex Mix”, “why did it disappear” and “will there come an alternative”.
Again - you are allowed to make what we customers believe to be bad decisions. Or just “decisions we do not agree with”. But own up to it - making decisions that affect us the way removing Plex Mix obviously do, and then come back a year later stating “this is what we planned all along”…

We might have bought that at the beginning, but now…
Too little, too late, in my opinion.

(and yes, my statement “I have not bothered checking, but I think…” should have been a tip of I was not 100% serious in my analysis of the situation - I was trying to get a point across.)

Well, I’m bummed that plex mix is still not available. I guess I’m a little thankful that I signed up the other day for the Tidal/Plex free trial. Looks like Tidal allows you to do track radio and so far I’m impressed.

I guess since Plex isn’t going to bringing back plex mix back or access to a Tidal family subscription, I’ll be canceling my Plex Tidal subscription and going with a direct Tidal family subscription for my music.

Was hoping to get Plex whatever % you would get from subscription but sorry to say it’s not going to happen.

Bob

It’s not plex, nor is it plexmix, nor is it a solution for mobile/remote users.

But if you want the best mixes of your local content, Check out @ https://www.mediamonkey.com/addons/browse/item/lastfm-nodes-lastfm-dj/

I’m guessing Mood metadata wasn’t ranked very highly in your overall evaluation. Ever since gracenote acquired moodlogic, they’ve been the only quality provider of this kind of data. That should have been a major factor in your decision to switch.

It would have been nice to offer some sort of workaround, such as letting users continue to use Plex Mix based on the metadata already stored in their local servers (which I’m assuming was not removed when gracenote was retired).

Some transparency around this feature removal would have been nice, such as “Our metrics show that less than 1% of users are using Plex Mix but over 10% are using Artist Radio”, or “Gracenote raised their licensing costs” or something.

Man it’s really a shame that this will not be coming back.

But let’s be real here. The guys at Jellyfin have it (called ‘Instant Mix’) and it is quite powerful. The platform overall might not (yet) be as developed as Plex is at the moment, but they had this feature basically since day one and it works fine for my library.

The mix is build solely on genres, which might be a little bit scars, but Plex has more metadata (similar artists, moods) which can help in making better mixes:

For all of you looking for Plex Mix (I really do miss it cuz now I have to do my own playlist), it is kind of avalaible in Plexamp ver 3 where you have Mood Radio or Style Radio ect… But now with PexAmp ver 3 you cannot control other players as we used to and of course there is no PlexAmp for Android TV which I use a lot for listening music in my living room.

Edit:
Sorry  I haven’t seen the post from TeknoJunky

I have been using Library Radio for many months and was fairly satisfied as a Plex Mix replacement. With the advent of PlexAmp, I think I have even more options than I did before. Today I found Mood Radio and I suspect that will be more useful than Plex Mix. Thank you, Plex, for making the overall product better every day.

I think different every day is probably closer

I also miss Plex mix. I have been using artist radio and it provides a reasonable substitute when I am listening on my phone. However, with the old Plex mix, I could play over my Sonos speakers. Any way to play the artist radio on Sonos? Will this feature be added? Doesn’t seem like it should be that difficult to incorporate into Sonos.

For quite a while I maintained both a Plex Pass account and a Google Play account. Google Play is in the process of being discontinued by Google with users being directed towards Youtube Music. Google Play offered an an equivalent of “Plex mix”: you could choose any uploaded track (even a super obscure one or one you had performed yourself) and the service would use that as a seed to generate a playlist - normally very well.

So, I predict that there will be an influx of refugees from Google Play who have observed that not even the premium version of Youtube Music can do this and who will be looking for other solutions. People who would be willing to pay subscription for the privilege having this feature.

PlexAmp is very impressive in terms of many the features it can offer. It is a great shame that this is not one of them.

Long time user of plex, and yes I too miss plex mix type function. I have a Thecus NAS which I’ve been forced to upgrade and a separate windows 10 machine and attach to the Thecus NAS for media storage because the Thecus platform is no longer supported (too bad). It’s processor was able to transcode easily. However iOS clients were no longer supported either… All this to say making the change to a Windows PMS I was disappointed to also lose plex mix.

If plex mix still existed today, i would pay 10 bucks a month just to use that feature alone

I feel you. Well it’s either that or Apple music… however, they also had “Genius Mix” in the past… also discontinued.

Spotify has something similar but as it uses all music of the planet and not just your own music I usually hate the mixes it creates after 10-20 songs… For example I play quiet piano music, select the “more of that” and 2 hours later I am listening to bible study music.

there is a votable thread here:

also there is mix builder in plexamp - works okay-ish - it made me happy today so…
(you can activate it on “Artist” view)

Or on the front page.

Bring Plex Mix Back!

@OttoKerner I’m sure you are aware that the Mix Builder in plexamp is nothing at all like the plex mix… you literally need to build your own mix by choosing your own songs, and just like all the other comments here have been pointing out, it’s a less than sub-par alternative and certainly not a replacement.
