Plex on mobile says “Libraries offline”
What works:
Local, plex on Samsung TV
Local, plex on Android, via browser
Used to work
Local, plex on Android about 1 month ago (with ‘allow unsecured connections’ switched on)
What doesn’t work:
Local, plex on Android (unless I switch on ‘remote access’, and then it asks me for a subscription)
Since the update about 1 month ago, the Android App stopped working. I had just purchased it and was using it since 2-3 months before that. However, with the latest version, it treats my server as remote and doesn’t allow me to connect. Does anyone how to make this work?
your app/server consider the connection on your local network to be remote
the restrictions on remote streaming applied by Plex, starting on April 29, 2025
#1 can be an issue is you have intentionally or unintentionally segregated your home network, e.g. by creating separate subnets with their own IP ranges. This can happen if you have multiple active network components that don’t extend your network but create new ones.
As for #2, there‘s some details on the new requirements/prerequisites for remote streaming in the related blog announcement:
To stream remotely starting on April 29, 2025, you will need a Remote Watch Pass or Plex Pass subscription on your account or the admin of the Plex Media Server from which you stream will need a Plex Pass subscription on their account.
I am assuming that since I am able to connect to plex using my mobile browser, there shouldn’t be the issue of two subnets? I only have one router in the house and when I connect to plex using my phone’s browser, I just use the standard address: 192.168.1.xx:32400.
My TV can access the content with no issues, so my guess is that the network is setup properly. Something seems odd with my plex server setup on the container and it only affects the android app.
Mine works as soon as I enable remote pass. You could try enabling remote streaming and see if that works for you as well. Since you are already on the Plex Pass, it shouldn’t cost you extra.
However, it feels a bit incorrect (or unfair) that I’m sitting next to my router, connected to my LAN but my phone has to take the remote approach instead of connecting directly. Since the TV can connect directly, that makes me think that it’s something in the Android app.
