So I did an upgrade of my library. What a mess. A lot of movies are mismatched, I can fix them, but it is a pain.
What frustrates the heck out of me is the meta data from actors. For example I have the movies L.A. Confidential and The Gateway, both with Kim Basinger. But when you select Kim Basinger in either movie, the other won’t show up. Same Kim for the world, not for Plex. There are many more examples like this.

The actor search problem is due to a mismatch on the metadata. A little while ago plex changed the cast ids to fix a bug with cast members with the same or similar names.
The fix for this on your side is a full refresh of all the metadata for everything in your library so the ids are updated. Then optimise the db afterwards so the search index is rebuilt. Until that is completed it’ll mismatch in search like you are seeing.
On the unmatched movies I’d suggest taking this opportunity to revisit your naming and fix them to match the naming convention plex expects. Use matching ids in the name if you want which is optional but great. It’ll save you a huge amount of problems in the future.
