Plex movie playback

Having a major problem with movie playback.

when i select any movie to play it plays the wrong movie. Just started since last week, iv’e even deleted the movie list and reinstalled a fresh database. Movie trailers seem to work now but even they were showing the wrong trailer last week iv’e gone back 2 updates with no better result.

Can anyone suggest how to fix this major problem please?
This problem is using both Roku & direct playback from HDMI server thru Plex

Open the movie in Plex Web and go to ... > Get Info or edit the metadata and go to the Info… is that the expected file… and if it is – can you play it through VLC to confirm it’s playing the expected movie?

(just trying to rule out there’s something mixed up in your setup)

have tried VLC and several movies of all formats inc MKV, Mp4 & AVI all working great through VLC
one thing of note is when playing the trailers they work fine through plex .

This verification of yours did include a check that Plex is referring to the right files to start with (Plex library entry pointing to the right file)?

Yes i presume it’s getting it from the correct folder on my server however

As you can see from the playback image its getting the movie from a different folder. What it is ment to be is Les Miserables

Is this the trailer playing ahead of your main feature (“Les Miserables”) or did you click on Play Trailer from the pre-play screen of “Les Miserables”?

Can you verify the file linked to the entry in Plex is the correct file with that particular movie? (see how to verify this in my 1st reply)

Yes opps sorry it seems that it’s putting trailers before the main movie just like being at the cinema

Yes a random trailer plays before the main feature

You can disable that in the settings of your client by setting the amount of trailers to play before each movie to None:

  • in Plex Web: Settings > Plex Web > Player > Extras > Cinema Trailers to Play Before Movies
  • in Plex for Roku: Settings > Experience > Cinema Trailers
  • …
