Plex movies folder missing from hard drive, following power outage

Hi All,

I recently experienced a power outage on my Windows 10 PC while the Plex server was running.

After a reboot, I found that my ‘Movies’ folder on my second hard drive had vanished and the quick launch link to it reported that it was unavailable/inaccessible.

The movie icons still show in my Plex library, but the files can no longer be found. The 50-100GB disk space on the drive still appears to be allocated, but none of the movie files appear when searching.

I assumed that the files may have been corrupted, so tried chkdsk /f on the drive, but it reported no errors. It seems unusual for the folder name to just vanish if this comes down to corrupt files anyway. I also tried running Recuva, but the files did not appear in the deleted history. It’s as if they’ve been stored somewhere in a temporary trash state, but are inaccessible.

Has anyone seen this before? I’ve seen similar issues mentioned in forums online but no resolution.

Grateful for any advice people can offer.

Thanks Trumpy. Do you not find it odd that the folder has vanished altogether and that chkdsk found no bad sectors though?

A few other users have mentioned Plex removing library folders from the HDD. Is it possible that this is related to an event in Plex? I’ve never experienced behaviour like this before after an unplanned shutdown.

Okay - thanks for your help.
