Plex Music artist mismatch - theaudiodb no longer used?

Server Version#: 1.22.3.4523

Artist HNNY is matched as Steve Reich. And while he has used samples of Steve’s music, that does not make him Steve Reich. Trying to fix the match brings up a few questions:

  1. Plex Music is the only available option under Agent, wasn’t there a second option previously?
  2. Does Plex still grab info from theaudiodb, if yes, why would the correct match not be used? HNNY | TheAudioDB.com

Search result looks correct: HNNY, Sweden 100, sounds about right. But after selecting the entry I end up with Steve Reich, highly influential avant-garde compoers from United States of America, smiling at me again.

theaudiodb no longer used?

It never was used in Plex. Plex Music is primarily using musicbrainz.org, with last.fm and allmusic.com providing additional data.

Your issue was probably caused by a mix-up between “Album Artist” meta tags and folder organisation. (Or a complete absence of this particular meta tag.)

Thanks for the reply. All EPs / albums of this artist I have are tagged with Track Artist and Album Artist. Both fields use value HNNY.

All items reside in artist folder HNNY. Not sure what I would be doing wrong. Removed artist folder from music library but plex did not pick that up. Tried forcing Scan Library Files but that is compaining about missing internet connection which is not the case as I can access and play media via plex just fine. Very odd, maybe a bug in latest plex stable server?

Check also all tracks which are tagged with “Steve Reich”. Usually soundtracks and samplers are the culprits.

The “internet needed” issue is usually fixed by stopping and restarting the Plex server.

Internet needed issue is indeed fixed by stopping and restarting plex server.
Turned out two of the three HNNY artists were actually Steve Reich so fix match and set to Steve Reich solved that. Removing and re-adding HNNY folder this time around resulted in correct match and this entire situation is resolved.
