Been using and loving Plex for a year as my music service/library. Been pushing it through Sonos Play 1 and Sonos base. Once in a while Sonos acted up primarily because our Wifi was weak or because Sonos is generally unable to work smoothly with large libraries (65k tracks+).
I’ve moved to a new city and got my QNAP on the new network and Plex on my iPhone and MacBook as normal. But after loading Plex onto my Sonos it only shows podcasts and not my music library.
I’ve spent some time reading forums here and in Sonos and this appears to be a common problem! But both companies blame the other and users agree that neither really cares about addressing the issues.
I’ve deleted Sonos from Plex and reinstalled and restarted. I’ve done the same with Plex on Sonos but the speaker just sits there!
Hi, My music came ‘back’ after about 6 hours! I don’t know why. But at the same time that it came back all my synced music disappeared!
It’s the first major ‘problem’ I’ve had with Plex so not sure what is going on. Hope you can find your music.
I’ve had a similar issue. I’ve been fine for 6 months but just recently upgraded to a PlexPass. Wondering if that is the source of the problem. I’ve also followed the steps of deleting Plex from Sonos and reinstalling but without success.
No advice. As I said, my library suddenly ‘reappeared’ again after several hours, so suspect it was a fairly minor glitch. For the past month no issues at all. Back to normal. Good luck.
Has there ever been any comment from any of the Plex or Sonos developers on this? I’m having this issue, and raised it as well over in a Sonos forum. In my case, it worked for at least a year, and broke sometime this past fall (probably October 2018-ish.) I have been unable to get it to see anything but Podcasts. Have deleted and reinstated accounts on the Plex and the Sonos. All other apps (including Plex on iOS) can see all media fine.
To help get a little more visibility to this issue, you might want to copy/paste your post into a new thread and be sure to tag it with “sonos” as well.
Thanks - I’d already gone browsing there before noticing your reply. I got it working this morning by creating a manual port-forward on my home firewall. Still kind of confused as to why it used to work, but I suspect it’s a Sonos thing.
Hi, i am facing probably the same issue. When using PLEX via SONOS app (iPhone7) I cannot see the PLEX media server. Eventhough it was working for years until last Sep. The PLEX media server is installed on a QNAP NAS. I can see the PLeX Media server when using the app on a laptop on iOS device, But do not see it when using SONOS. I always have the most recent updates. Can you explain more detailed how to manually forward a port on a firewall (McAffee). Thx
If you can first confirm that your Sonos can see the Plex, even if all it can see is the Podcasts list, then you know that there is a handshake between Sonos and Plex, and the credentials are accepted. In my case, since I did know that to be true, the issue was with the Plex service requiring a port forwarding rule to be set up in my ZyWall USG 50 firewall. You basically associate an outside ip address (from your ISP) and a port (32400 for Plex) to an internal address (like 192.168.1.xx) and port 32400, and then a rule to pass the traffic across when requested. Here’s how mine worked: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJppXA-n24Y
Good morning, SONOS sees PLEX (Categories, MyPodcasts, Recommended, Popular, Plex Picks, etc). But notthe server. So there is a connection between SONOS and PLEX. I will experiment with the ports assignements within McAffee. Should you have any other ideas, pls share them mwith me. Regards
