Plex/Nine Database

Is Plex planning to add any sort of “Recently Added” widgets to the home screen, so we have easy access to new film and television shows in our library? I have always loved the look of that  Also, say for instance we have uploaded a backup video to a website, and we want to add it to our library. Will we be able to add the video by providing the URL? For instance, I just started using a website called Videofriender, and it is a very convenient way to store video online for free. Ultimately, my dream would be to back up many of my videos, and be able to stream them through the Plex program. Thanks!

you won't be enjoying your national team's first match, though :D

Well, that was debated previously in this thread. It is of course a very valid argument, but the cat is already out of the bag ("in a matter of weeks, not months"). Thus, when it is OK to give "positive" estimations, why is it not OK to give "negative" estimations and acknowledge that the previous estimations are no longer accurate? That seems like the fair thing to do, IMHO...

I *really* enjoy using 8.5, no doubt about that!

Oh, and it is *such* a shame that Sweden can not be there at the WC ;)

I totally accept and respect that, but I also maintain that these facts do not conflict with my comments above.

Ha! :D

You are probably right. We kinda fear that opening match - Holland look very strong (in fact they are my overall favorite, although they seem to always fail to live up to their great potential during the knock-out stages). However, I believe that we are also a very good team and I have a sense that you maybe in for a surprise... Maybe a draw? Do you know that our national coach (Morten Olsen) was a very successful manager of Ajax Amsterdam - he'll be on top of your tactics, and the two squads play in nearly the same formations (very offensive wings). I think it will be a very entertaining match with a lot of goals - 3-3? ;)

Please stay on topic, or I’m closing the thread. If you guys want to chat about the World Cup, we have a lovely “Off-Topic” forum you can use

You're right. Sorry. :)

Having just had my 1TB drive die I am in the process of sorting out all my external drives where all my movies are stored. I am struggling to convince myself to scrape all the metadata as I am still hoping (maybe naively so) that the new version with plex media manager is coming out soon. Is this still the case or should I just bite the bullet and start the long and tedious scraping then manually editing process!!!

Any feedback from the developers would be appreciated as come Friday I will be stuck in front of the TV (World Cup) and my wife will be in control of Plex!!!

Cheers guys.

Nice try dude :D

I'm in the exact same position as you. All I've done is to add all my sources and then scan in individual movies/tv shows as and when I want to watch them. You can still see your entire collection in file mode this way as well.

Marc

This is actually very funny, as I too was in the same boat (seriously!). I just got a Drobo FS and consolidated 7TB worth of Movies/TV shows. I bit the bullet and re-scraped/ edited everything. I thought about posting with a plea but I withheld. With my luck I was expecting Plex 9 to be released the day after my efforts...

Just another thought / idea for maybe another release that I would like and i’m sure others would fine useful.

Have a way to create your own custom smart folders and have it so they can be displayed in plex menu / navigation.

With a smart folder you don’t actually add content to the folder. It’ll grab the content from the database based on what ever settings you define for the folder. very similar to smart folders in osx.

here are some workflow ideas:

I could create a smart folder for the last 20 added items.

I create a smart folder for all 1080p movies.

I create a smart folder for all G rated movies.

I create a smart folder that includes all the tv shows with the name “House” in the title.

etc…

Just another idea. Not sure if it’s been mentioned before. This would be a great way to help organize content. of course the same content could be in multiple smart folders depending on the settings of the smart folder.

Like your thinking. This feature would be superb!

I think that should actually be quite “easy” given the amount of metadata connected to the files.

I would be surprised if the devs didn’t already plan this awesomeness to us…

Nate, great idea :)

I like the smart folders. Would be great too if you could create those folders using genres too - to make family/kid sections easier to create.

Kudos to the Smart Folders. That’s so Mac. Count me in.

Having just read a post today by Elan on another subject, stating that;

“I have it on my list to include the (simple) fix into the next (last?) release of Plex/Eight, for those wanting to stick with it”

This is a bit disappointing as I am sure I am not the only one who is waiting (expecting) the release of Plex 9 in the coming weeks, as we were lead to believe that it would be released in June.

Has something changed? Is there a point in working on another release of plex 8 this close to the new version, surely the devs time would be better spent on Plex 9.

Thanks.

I never said when the next release of Plex/Eight would be :) Our focus right now is on Plex/Nine, and will be the next release. There's a final "closing out" of the Plex/Eight series planned, some time after that, for the users that would prefer to stay with the stable series, for whatever reason.

Brilliant, thanks.

Everybody here has great haircuts and I am greatly looking forward to the first alpha release (or next blog post, whatever).

Keep up the good work, you guys are awesome.
