Server Version#: 1.28.2.6151-6000
Player Version#: Plex Web
I’m not even sure where to start. I went on vacation and didn’t use my Plex server for 2 weeks. When I returned and tried from my Roku it would not connect to my Sysnology NAS Plex Media Server.
I tried from my computer with the local IP and I get the same result. The web interface does not even show my media. When I click on “Your Media” it goes to a page that displays “Add your media to Plex” and a button with “Get Plex Media Server” on it.
Plex Media Server seems to be running on my NAS and does not show any obvious errors in the logs.
I enabled port forwarding on my router years ago and it’s always worked fine. Just for troubleshooting I deleted it and re-added it. No change.
Are you actually using the server’s local IP address (no own URLs or any Syno remote-connect URLs)? Are you inside the same subnet?
I assume you recently reset your account password and opted to sign-out all devices? This should also sign-out / unclaim the server – though you should still be able to access it locally. If bad comes to worse, you should be able to reclaim the server using this script:
I did not recently reset the account password.
After reading your post I did reset the password. I followed the instructions very carefully and it all seemed to work, except when I try to start Plex it just tries to start and then stops. In the log there are thousands of lines but near the end is the line “Shutting down with signal 15 (Terminated)”. Not sure what to do next.
It’ll take a few more details from the log to put this in context.
Generally the log line implies the server was ordered to shutdown – could be by DSM due to some issues (e.g. exceeding memory demand)…
Thanks, I’m not sure what else to do. I’ve been using Plex on Synology for years with no issues. I’m still running DSM 6.2.xxx and thinking I might upgrade to DSM 7.0.1 and installing a fresh copy of Plex unless I can get this fixed. I have uploaded the server log file in case you want to look at it. Plex Media Server.log (249.5 KB)
I shut down and reboot my NAS everyday on a schedule. I am not shutting down PMS intentionally, after the running script you suggested, it seems to start and immediately stops.
Normally, I’d see you sign in / authenticate as you open the Plex/web client.
I think that’s part of the underlying problem that the Plex/web client does not even recognize that I was running a PMS.
I can no longer open the local Plex/web client at all since PMS will not run. I tried re-installing the latest version/update package again and that did not help anything.
Now when I try to start it, PMS just generates a Startup Crash.log. Startup Crash.log (80 Bytes)
Sorry, unfortunately I mixed up you and the original person replying to my question. tom80H suggested a script to run that I thought was from a team member. Now my PMS does not run at all.
I think it is probably time to upgrade my NAS to DSM 7.x.x and start over with Plex. This will take me a while to plan since my NAS also acts as backup system for my SoHo.
I upgraded to DSM 7 and everything went well. I tried installing the Plex for DSM 7 package (PlexMediaServer-1.28.2.6151-914ddd2b3-x86_64_DSM7.spk) but it did not go like the instructions displayed. It did not create the “PlexMediaServer” user and displayed a completely different message (see the attachment).
Not sure what to do now. Should I manually create the user? Right now it does not recognize my libraries. Even when I manually add a library it displays it as being empty (see attachment).
Sorry I made a mistake, it did create the user but did not recognize my previous libraries. Even after I granted permission to the PlexMediaServer user.
It did not migrate. No big deal. I am manually creating the libraries, I only had 5 of them and PMS is now working on my Roku and Pixel phone. So I am happy. BTW there was no Plex/Migration.log. Thanks for your help.
Plex is working away populating my libraries. The only issue I’m having now is getting my photos from my Photo library to display using my Roku. I think I just need to give it time to build all the metadata. I seem to remember the last time I installed a fresh PMS on my NAS (6 years ago) it took a few days until the Photo library was completed since I have over 25,000 photos.
