Can’t connect to media server

I cannot connect to media server! I have Mac ox and a Synology Nas 220j
Apparently there is a Plex server open on my Mac- can’t find it anywhere- deleted the files I could see! Everytime I delete I go around in circles- it sends me to download media server- which does nothing! Literally at a dead end! I have purchase a Plex lifetime pass- thinking it would help- no luck! Wanted to use with Sonos as I have a large music library- even the Dino’s control cannot find the server? What am I doing wrong? Can anyone give me an idiots guide to correcting this dilemma? I had two accounts one had the server and I didn’t disconnected in an attempt to claim the server- but I cannot find the damn thing

  1. Is the Synology running DSM 6 or DSM 7?

  2. What is the IP address of the Synology?
It should be an RFC-1918 compliant address
    10.x.x.x; 172.16.x.x to 172.31.x.x; or 192.168.x.x

  3. What version of PMS is installed on the Synology?

DSM version is available via Synology Control Panel → Info Center

IP Address is available via Synology Control Panel → Info Center → Network

PMS version is available via Synology Package Center
In the list of installed applications, click on the Plex icon. Do not click on “Open.”

Thanks for responding to my dilemma!
It’s DSM 7
The I.p address is compliant- 192.168
The version of PMS is 1.21.0.3744

If you and it are on the same 192.168.x.? subnet, then

  1. Uninstall the package with the KEEP (first radio button) option
  2. Reinstall the package again --HOWEVER–

After you’ve gotten the server running and attached to your account again,

I do recommend you update from the DSM 7 beta app.
It’s not supportable (DSM 7 is now DSM 7.1.x and “Final Release” status)
( It doesn’t work right )

When you do the normal “Manual Install” of a newer version.

  1. It will sit at “Processing” while it upgrades (MOVES) your metadata to its new home under the PlexMediaServer shared folder.

  2. Don’t interrupt it or refresh the page. Package Center is in control.
It won’t hang. The speed of your disks versus the amount of metadata is what’ll control the amount of time.

Hi I followed the instructions- however on uninstalling I don’t get the claim token option?
It just installs!
Any advice

Yep yep

  1. Uninstall doesn’t give you claim token option. You option is to KEEP

  2. On Install is when you get the option

  3. I’m going to give you 1.29.2 so we know where you’re at

So the sequence is a two-step here (one to upgrade and then one to reclaim)
– have to do it this way because your server might need more than a few minutes to move the data around

  • Uninstall w/ KEEP (first option)
  • Install 1.29.2 from below. – NORMAL installation
  • Let it sit at “Installing” as it moves the data around
  • When Done, Uninstall w/ KEEP again
  • Install 1.29.2 one last time – CLAIM TOKEN option
    – Get the token
    – Paste it into the box on the form
    – NEXT NEXT DONE
    – Let it finish
    – It will show claimed by Your Username and email when done.

Questions ?

Awesome- I’ll give it a go tomorrow- new years here in Australia! I’ll let you know how it goes- really appreciate the help- top fella!

You Aussies always did start the party early!

Yes indeed:beer::beer::beer::joy:

Nope- installed and had a 503 error ??
Uninstyand kept- went through the processes as stated there were 5 downloads to choose from ARMV7 (2)- they didn’t work - ARMV8 that worked but once loaded error 503 - haven’t tried intel 32 or 64!
Clearly failing!:weary:

The 503 should say that plex is running some database upgrades, this is normal, depending on your library size and server CPU this can take anywhere from a couple minutes to 2-3 weeks.

@adrianwe7

The text says “Temporarily unavailable” ???

It’ll be done in a bit

IF SO –

  1. Some folks waited 12 minutes so don’t be surprised .
  2. 2-3 weeks ? Nah… Don’t think so. Non on an ARMv8

It says
Response code 503 title Maintenance status Plex Media Server is currently running database migrations

It’s opened and states not authorised
