Plex will not cast to chromecast devices

This was working as of very recently.

My Android will say "Unable to connect to Living Room’ when i press the cast icon from plex app.
My computer plex setup, wont even recognize the chromecast using plex.
I tried a server update, phone reset, chromecast reset, no app update is available.
Admititly, the chromecast is quite old. I have the same model in the basement and i get the same result when trying to cast there.
Does anyone else know what may be happening.

Same here. Both Plex and Plexamp appear no longer to be able to connect to my soundbar using chromecast. In my case that is from an iPhone.

Are you all using old Chromecasts? if so which model exactly?

Does this mean the web app in chrome?

no, its all chromecast devices, working fine yesterday in the netherlands. tested all devices from our google tv to chromecast ultra

Chromecast Ultra in my case.

Other apps can cast just fine, but Plex on Android triggers an error on the Chromecast screen saying something went wrong.

Plex worked fine yesterday, but something happened since then.

I am using a Harman Kardon Enchant 1300. Quite likely that the built-in chromecast can be regarded “old”. But the device itself is working fine and another app can still cast to it.

Same here. I used plex yesterday and it worked fine.
Today it is not working. When I try to cast from plex app to chromecast in Tv, the chromecast(the Tv) shows “Something went wrong” while the plex app in mobilephome shows “Unable to connect to —name of my chromecast—”.
I tried to cast from both my plex app in the mobilephone and from the plex app in a tablet. Same result for both. I tried to restart my mobilephone and also my wifi router but no difference.
Meanwhile it works fine to cast from e.g. youtube app to the chromecast in the TV. Super strange and annoying. No clue what else to try so i started searching online and found this thread.

ok thanks. Also my question about web was really just to find out it it matters what you are casting from.

If you have the new experience mobile apps is it just those. or also the existing “old” app as well. Does it also fail from the web app in browser?

First gen Chromecast (the original USB stick shaped model), the 2nd gen Chromecast, and the OG Ultra model (from before the Google TV OS stuff was implemented).

Does not connect via the old Android app, nor Web App (via Chrome, Opera GX)

Edit: Ironically…as I retry right now, it might be working again…everyone else should check too! Web app, plex’s internal web app, old android app, all are now seemingly connecting on my gen 1 chromecast at least (haven’t tested the other 2 yet)

I think the bug is acknowledged and currently under investigation - see this post from the co-founder from Plex:

for me its fixed now, living in the netherlands i thin just a few minutes ago. its was not working the whole day… thank yout for the quick support

I’ve had this problem for a few days, it’s been driving me crazy trying to find a solution. Glad the problem has been noted and being addressed- my chromecast is about 4 years old. Should I uninstall and reinstall Plex on both devices, or will it automatically adjust? Cheers.

Still broke. Can’t cast to vizio tv. Broken ever since update. Will there be a fix? Or just abandon plex?

same, its definitely something with updating to the new iOS app for me. broke casting on mine and the wifes phone. Please fix this.
