Plex no longer sees nas

Server Version#: 1.23.2.4656-6000
Player Version#: all devices

plex cant connect to my nas from any device. this started after updating. tried to contact support but the website says it would go unanswered so here i am i guess. i cant roll back the server to an older version, the nas is still good, i can access all files on it without using plex, its only plex that is having this issue. any assistance is appreciated

Would you mind sharing some more details?
e.g. what version of DSM do you run on this Syno NAS (e.g. DSM 5/6 or the 7 beta)?
Can you still access your Plex Media Server using the Syno’s IP address (e.g. http://[Syno IP]:32400/web)?

info1

says “this site cant be reached” when i click open on plex from logged into the nas

if i go to plex.tv and log in, it says only an indirect connection is available even though im at home

Is this NAS in the same subnet as your local computer?
If it’s accessible from app.plex.tv that means the server is running – the indirect connection and lack of accessibility from the local IP address can mean the server is not considered to be part of your local network. This can happen if you have multiple routers / access points that establish their own network.

yes, i can access the nas directly, backup my computer, add content to the plex library, just not play content through the plex media player directly on any device. this started after i updated plex media server, id love to rollback but the internet says it cant be done on a nas. remote access says fully accessible, so even over the internet it shouldnt be indirect. my house has an att modem and deco wifi routers, wasnt as issue in the past

i can now see plex through the internal ip, but its still indirect for some reason.

thanks for the help btw

Where exactly does it say it’s indirect?

info2

its the same whether its from plex.tv, or the ip of the nas

I believe there’s 2 elements to your issue:

  1. It appears your NAS is in a different subnet than your local players. You can try to resolve that (e.g. by figuring out why that is – most frequently such an issue occurs if you have multiple routers/access point that create different subnets; sometimes routers establish different subnets for wired and wireless connections). If you need to keep those different local networks you can configure Plex to recognize the other local subnet as local network (Settings > [Server Name] > Network > LAN Networks).
Fixing this issue should resolve your local playback issues.

  2. Something about your remote access setup seems to be broken…

resetting the nas fixed the remote access. your lan networks part doesnt make sense to me. i see an open blank at “lan networks,” what should i fill in for for plex to recognize other subnets?

Before jumping the fence… do you actually have different subnets in your home network?

how would i check

What is the IP address and subnet mask of your Synology NAS?
Login to NAS w/ browser: Control Panel → Network → Network Interface

What is the IP address of one of the computers / devices which connect indirectly?
If Windows, in a command window, c:\ipconfig

found the problem, my nas was switched in my router from a 192. address to a public ip. was no internal ip. thank both of yall for your help.
