Plex No Longer Working on Amazon Fire TV STick

Plex has been working fine until recently (I’m assuming after Plex updates). I can no longer stream movies on Amazon Fire TV Stick. I have no problem streaming off PC. I have two different servers and have exactly the same issue with both.

All my movies appear in the library however when I select one to play I get: “An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again.”.

The stick is working fine with other apps and I’m streaming around 400mbps… it’s not a connection issue. I have Fire sticks on all my TVs and all have started this same issue within the last month… rendering Plex useless.

Plex Server is from a Netgear Router. I’m sure the question will come up. [

Nighthawk X10 with PLEX - NETGEAR

Hi,

I do have Netgear Plex Server too and have the same problem as you. The Plex Player on my Android TVs says the same “An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again.”. and from the Console, I got “Got a request to stop a transcode session without a session GUID (or with an invalid one).” and this issue only happens on Android-related devices as I do have a Samsung Tyzen OS device and works fine, also iOS devices and works fine, so this is definitely something related with the Android Plex Player

I haven’t seen someone else talking about this, but I have this problem since around a month now

Glad to know I’m not alone. This problem is sporadic. Firestick was working fine until the last plex upgrade. I can stream from PC but not my Firestick. I have a second plex server working on a PC and with that one, I can stream from Firestick with no issue. So it’s got something to do with the Netgear → Firestick pathway.

Is is just me or does it seem like this “community support” is just a cop-out for Plex so they don’t have to provide any real support?

I have the same problem. Server is a Synology NAS, Windows clients work, Fire TV stick has the same error mentioned earlier in this thread.

I have the exact same issue - Amazon fire TV (2nd gen) & Synology DS218+

Movies play fine on iPhone or laptop and the Firestick can see my library, just not play it.

Thank god for the Euro’s on TV or I’d be even more f****d off!

Have you tried closing plex completely and restarting it on the firestick?

Go to settings>applications>manage installed apps>plex>force close application.

I think its an issue with plex always running in the background and never closing. Although last week I had a codec pack upgrade issue.

Restarting plex has no affect. Nor does completely restarting the Firestick or clearing caches.

Maybe you got hit with the codec pack update issue. On the Plex server, locate your data folder. There should be a codecs folder inside. delete its contents but leave the folder. Restart the server, it should re-download the needed files automatically.

That fixed it for me when I had the issue a few weeks ago. There was a problem with the audio codec, but it only affected the firesticks. I also had to force quit plex for it to re load the changes on the firestick.

Still the same problem on the Fire Stick. Deleted and reinstalled the app on the stick, deleted the codecs on the server, upgraded and restarted the server with no resolution.
My library can be accessed by Explorer on the Firestick, but not Plex.

I updated to PMS 1.23.3.4707 just now and it fixed it for me.

1.23.3.4707 worked perfectly. Thanks.

I uninstalled on TV Stick and reinstalled latest version. STILL not working!!! Very frustrating. How did you update to that version (my Netgear router says it’s using latest version and it’s 1.19.

Can you upgrade the server to the latest version? If not, you may need to side load a lower client.

I don’t think I have the option. I’m using a Netgear router for my server. All I can think of is to dump the Netgear altogether and to setup a PC as my Server.

Netgear controls updates being available in their store. Unfortunately they have not updated it in a while. Though the app should work with that version. Have you tried setting the app to allow insecure connections on the local network?

@ BigWheel: Correct. This is a NEW issue. My Amazon stock was working quite well about a month ago. Netgear hasn’t updated since last fall. So this must be associated with the App update or Plex online updates.

this has been going on for months actually, reverting to an older version is a viable workaround: Playback error limited to FireTV on certain mkv videos - #5 by plex77596

the Netgear cannot be upgrade or downgraded afaik, it is controls by netgear. Server and app logs would be needed to see what might be happening
