Like a lot of people, I was having issues downloading metadata for my TV shows from TheTVDB recently. The latest Plex update seems to have fixed that for all but one of my shows.
The only metadata that gets synced for this one show are the show’s top level posters, banners, and backgrounds. No dates, descriptions, season or episode info, lower level posters, or anything else gets synced. I have followed all of the recommended steps I could find on the official Plex docs and from searching around the support forums, but nothing I do seems to fix the problem.
Server OS: Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS
Plex Media Server version: 1.13.2.5154
Docker image: plexinc/pms-docker:public
Affected TV Show: It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia (TheTVDB)
Troubleshooting steps taken:
- Restarted the docker image.
- Restarted the Ubuntu docker host.
- Moved the TV show out of the TV folder, scanned library, emptied trashed, cleaned bundles, and moved TV show back in to TV folder.
- Double checked naming convention. (
TV\It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia\Season 01\It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - S01E01 - The Gang Gets Racist DVD.mkv
)
- Switched agents from TheTVDB to The Movie Database.
- Unmatched and fixed match.
- Cleared all contents of the folder
/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Caches
- Removed and recreated the entire TV library.
Double check file properties. I’ve noticed that sometimes if there’s info in file properties that I use to insert or someone shared their file with me via legal means and theirs have info, it would interfere with file naming that can cause metadata not recognize file naming scheme. Once you check and notice you do indeed have info there and clear it out, then refresh metadata and see if that fixes issue. Otherwise, have you tried to manually match metadata?

I see nothing in the file properties that conflicts with the file naming scheme. It matches it exactly.
By manually matching metadata, do you mean choosing the ‘Fix Match…’ menu option for the series? If so, yes I have done that many times with both TheTVDB and The Movie Database as the TV agent and neither has worked. When I do, I choose the correct match, PMS displays the messages “Downloading metadata for It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” and “Finished processing It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”, and nothing changes on the metadata side. Still blank for everything except the top level show posters, banners, and backgrounds.
I wasn’t sure if I attached the PMS logs on my initial post. I have included them on this reply.
