Metadata no longer being applied to TV Shows

Been using Plex for a few years now without any major issues, but recently been having a problem with TV metadata not updating/downloading. Issue started middle of January, and is only effecting my TV Shows. Movies metadata is loading and working with no issues.

Nothing has changed in my setup or the way i name my files, but episode information is now no longer loading. Instead of showing episode title and number it just shows the episode number.

Running PMS server version 1.11.1.4730 on a Win10 PC (version 1709 build 16299.192)

Things i have tried already:

  1. confirmed naming convention and ensured it follows recommend format:
  • TV Shows\24\Season 1\24 - S01E01 - 12-00 A.M. - 1-00 A.M.mkv
  • TV Shows\Billions\Season 1\Billions - S01E01 - Pilot.mkv
  1. Performed the Plex Dance as below:
move all files out of library
    update the library
    empty trash
    clean bundles
    double checked naming of files
    update library

  2. Cleared Plugin/Channel/Agent HTTP Caches as per the support article

  3. deleted entire library and re-created

  4. changed agent settings for the library from TVDB to Movie Database

  5. Checked agent settings

  1. unmatched and fixed match manually switching between both agents
  2. checked IPV6 settings are disabled on NIC card and router
  3. rebuilt entire server

After i rebuilt the server, i have had a luck with a handful of shows metadata loading fully by manually un-matching and fixing the match and then if required refreshing the metadata.

Weird thing is it was all working perfectly and now for some reason, TV Shows cannot get data but movies can. Any help on this would be really appreciated. Do let me know if any further information or logs will be required.

Bump if anyone would mind taking a look.

Verify that drive letter P: is still working and has a folder TV Shows on it that is not empty.

The letter P: is my NAS box with has been holding all my media since I started using Plex. Drive is connected and TV Shows is full of media.

Do you run Plex server as a system service?

Do you switch off your NAS at night?

Does your NAS spin down the drive platters after a while?

Does every path that is in your library definition exist and is not empty?

No - Win10 machine is on 24/7 and Plex launches at startup
NAS boxes are on 24/7
Every path in library exists and contains content. Movie metadata is loading fine, just seems to be an issue with the TV Shows.

As for spinning down the drive platters, i have not explicitly set anything like that, but will confirm the settings on the Synology NAS box.

I can confirm that there is no spinning down the drive platters setting on the NAS box. Also double checked all sleep settings for the PlexServer, NAS and all the NICs.

It’s strange as nothing has changed in my setup. Movie metadata working fine but for some reason TV metadata has just stopped and only intermittently loads if I fix a match using the different options for agents.

Please follow this procedure to get some meaningful logs:

  1. activate debug logging (not ā€˜verbose’!)
  2. quit Plex Server
  3. wait 1 minute
  4. start Plex Server
  5. wait 2 minutes
  6. either refresh one series or add one series into your library (please choose one with a moderate number of episodes)
  7. wait 3 minutes
  8. fetch log files and attach them here

As requested please find attached. Performed the actions twice, hence the reason for two separate logs. Hope this helps.

Weird. I see an error in your logs that usually only occurs on ā€˜Server’ editions of Windows.
Did you disable automatic updates of root certificates in Windows? You should not.

Anyway, try this procedure:

I’m running Windows 10 home and automatic updates is enabled and never been turned off or touched. I don’t even think you can disable automatic update of root certificates on this version of Windows.

Any how, I’ve just tried the procedure in the link above and no luck I’m afraid. Still not downloading TV show and episode metadata. Updated logs attached.

I’m having the same issue too! Not downloading metadata and just living it was ā€œEpisode #ā€ instead of even getting the title. Oddly though, this doesn’t happen every time and I cannot figure out a pattern. Plex Dance sometimes helps, usually doesn’t. Randomly, it may download metadata when I’m no longer trying to actively get it to download.

Already had a long thread here where it was never solved https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/264242/suddenly-stopped-downloading-metadata-for-shows

I have the same issue only with TV shows.
TV episodes are matched correctly (agent is The TV DB), posters are downloaded fine for the Series and Seasons, but the Episodes are not getting any metadata. Episodes are named fine and everything was working until a couple of days ago. Unsure if this started happening when I updated to PMS 1.12.2.4929.

Forcing a Refresh Metadata does not work, forcing a media analysis sometimes works but most of the times does not work either. The problem seems random to me.

Today after several retries between Refresh Metadata and Analyze I was able to get metadata for one episode that was missing it. Have been trying the same with a different episode with no luck.

Having a similar issue with my Synology NAS. Happens sporadically.

I had before everything on my pc and now i copy everything to a wd mycloud nas, and now i also have the send problem, movies are getting the metadata but tv shows doenst get any.

any fix for this issue?

Same issue (PMS on Unraid). Any bug fix?

I’ve intermittently suffered from this issue too and I’ve managed to fix it from time to time by navigating to a series and running refresh metadata. Then I find a single episode of the same show where there is no metadata and run refresh metadata on it.

I don’t know why it fails though my hunch is that we’re all using network mounts / shares and there is some sort of race condition causing it to fail.

Have you tried doing a non-absolute file path reference? Instead of P:\TV Shows, go \PLEXMADIANAS\TV Shows, or simply add both to the file folder path setup when you setup the library.

If there’s another layer of folders after the \PLEXMEDIANAS, just add the folder name with another \ after each folder.

I’ve lost my media because the Plex Server could not find S:\ (your P:), but using the non-absolute file path [I forgot the technical name for it], it works like a charm, regardless if S is showing and mapped to my computer.
