Plex not recognizing new files and no metadata loading

Device: WD My Passport Wireless Pro

I have been having a problem the last couple days where Plex wouldn’t match titles, but if I moved the files out of the library folder, then moved them back it would be fine. Today it did the same thing, but now nothing will match.
I added a new television show to see if it would do the same thing and Plex won’t even recognize the new show being added. It will also not allow anything to be played, it just gives the message “There are no playable items.”

I have scanned the files, refreshed metadata, done a restart on the device, and power it all the way off and then back up.

Please provide a directory listing, screenshot, etc showing how you have the directories and files named and structured.

Plex is very picky with TV shows. If you have not done so, review the TV show naming and organization requirements. See Naming & Organizing Your Media for details.

Edit: If you do rename files and folders, it is recommended that you Plex Dance the movie/TV Show/etc. This procedure removes old metadata and XML information from the Plex database. It can help when Plex has trouble identifying and matching media.

I’m doing the Plex Dance, but the files aren’t actually showing as removed from the library. All of the tiles showing the unmatched items are still there.

Your library database might be corrupted. I recently had something similar happen and had to reset the Plex database for the My Passport Wireless pro. Here are the instructions:

  1. Power up the drive
  2. use a computer to connect to the my passport wifi
  3. open the http://mypassport/UI/ from a browser on the computer that is connected to the wifi
  4. in the navigation bar click on “media”
  5. Under “Plex Media Server” find “Plex Database” and click on RESET
  6. it takes a few minutes to clear the database and the passport will reboot, but once it’s done rebooting and you can connect to the drive via Plex, you will be instructed to add new libraries.
  7. Voila! You are good to go again one the scan is finished and the metadata has been downloaded :slight_smile:

Your mileage may very but it might do the trick.
