Not sure how long this has been an issue, but I discovered that when I deleted a TV episode or season Plex is not trashing the episode or season. I recently compressed some BD TV shows and am replacing the uncompressed version with the compressed, but in a different directory. For whatever reason Plex won’t remove the dead links and I have to go into each episode and remove the unavailable. When I do this with movies Plex removes the dead link without issue. I have tried leaving a dummy file in the season directory and scanning my TV shows before deleting the directory and am seeing the same results. Anyone else having this problem?
Use the function “Empty Trash”, which can be found in unpinned menu top next to your Plex Media Server name
I think I already tried that, but I will give it another shot. I do have my server set to automatically empty trash on a library scan. Like I said, it works fine for movies, but not for TV shows.
Inspect the ‘Add Folders’ tab, when you edit your TV show library.
ALL paths there must point to a folder that is:
- still existing
- accessible by Plex server
- not completely empty (!)
Yes to all of the above. I point my TV library to a high level directory containing all of my TV show subfolders. I have also tried placing a dummy file in the season subfolder prior to a scan. What’s weird is that this function used to work without issue and still does for my movies. I haven’t changed anything in my library structure so it is seems to me something has changed in how Plex manages trash in recent versions.
The abhorrent behavior continues. I am now finding episodes that I have manually deleted and re-scanned that are not showing up as unavailable, much less being automatically removed from Plex.
Still working fine for me. Can you scan a library that has one of these mysterious files, then get me the scanner log? What was the season and show so I can check?
If it is still showing in Plex Web, can you get me the XML for that season.
Look up an episode from that season, find the parent ID, replace the key in the URL with that parent ID. Grab that XML.
