Plex Not Seeing Re-added Content

Server Version#:Latest
Player Version#:Latest

I have a strange issue. I had an old versions of some old home videos, which were in .avi format. I re ripped them in a higher quality .mkv format. I deleted the original .avi files though the plex web interface, but when I readded the .mkv files they do not show up in the Plex Web Player. They were named exactly the same except the extension changed and they are larger files. I have tried dragging them to another folder and updating my libraries then dragging them back in my Movies folder and updating the libraries again. I have also tried optimizing the database. The weird thing is that if I add movies on my NAS that I have not added before they show up fine. Any help would be appreciated.

Please perform a library scan and then post your server logs

Any log in particular? There are 151 logs in the .zip file

Depending on how quickly I can track down the problem I can easily run thru 20-30 log files, which is why we ask for all of them instead of trying to ask individually for them.

Home videos should not go into a library of the type “Movies”. This will lead to mis-matches and ignored files.

You better create a separate library of the type “Other Videos” and put your home videos into there.

Now that I started looking in to it this is happening to other regular movies.

Please give some examples of actual file names.
Do you put every movie into its own dedicated subfolder?

I do not put movies in subfolders. They are all just in the Movie folder on my NAS, which Plex is pointed at.

The thing that I find strange is the first time that I added them a few years ago it found them fine. When I deleted them and then readded them with the exact same naming convention except only the file extension changed they are not showing up. I just tried dragging them into another folder. Scanning the library. Renaming them something completely different. Dragging them back in to the Movies folder. Scanning the library and they are still not showing up…

@hankhill4 for these logs I am not seeing anything regarding movies. I am seeing some errors like ERROR - Couldn't get size of file "\\baymax\music\Dawsons Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\Ensemble Walter Boeykens\Messiaen_ Quatuor pour la fin du temps (Quartet for the End of Time)\06 Quatuor pour la fin du temps, for violin, cello, clarinet && piano, I_22_ VI. Danse de la Fureur, Pour les Sept Trompettes.m4a": boost::filesystem::file_size: The system cannot find the path specified: "\\baymax\music\Dawsons Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\Ensemble Walter Boeykens\Messiaen_ Quatuor pour la fin du temps (Quartet for the End of Time)\06 Quatuor pour la fin du temps, for violin, cello, clarinet & piano, I_22_ VI. Danse de la Fureur, Pour les Sept Trompettes.m4a" which I am betting are caused by excessively long filenames/paths. Some Operating systems cant handle things longer than 255 characters easily.

If you can please close plex, clear your logs, start plex and scan just the affected library of movies. and the repost the server logs. I am seeing some messages about ERROR - Exception thrown during migrations, aborting: sqlite3_statement_backend::loadOne: database disk image is malformed in older logs.

PS please also provide at least 1 filename/location for one of the affected videos. Helps us know what we are looking for.

This means your database file is damaged and needs to be repaired – urgently.

Thank you guys for all of your help. I eventually figured it out. What happened was for example I had the Rifftrax of Star Wars Episode I. When I added the real Star Wars Episode I it grouped the two files together in the web app. I then had to split them by right clicking on the poster and choosing “split”. The funny thing is on my NAS the Rifftrax one is named “Rifftrax E5.avi” and the real Star Wars Movie is named “Star Wars Episode IV - A New Hope(DeSpecialized).mkv” I have no idea how Plex would confuse those two files.

The way I figured this out is when I sorted my movie titles by Title I had 434 and when I sorted by date it went up to 460 titles. I knew something was off then haha.

Is there an easy way to split all movies grouped like this? Or at least see which movies are grouped? Because I have apparently 22 movies like this.

There is a “Duplicates” quick filter.
