I have several movies that I have added to Plex, and it chooses to show a thumbnail instead of the Movie Poster. However, when I edit the movie, and choose poster, the posters are there, but Plex has chosen a thumbnail to display instead. How can I force Plex to use the first poster it found instead of the thumbnail without going through and changing each movie individually?
I would Refresh all Metadata in the affected library. If this does not solve the problem I need logs and the name of one film where the problem occurs.
Hi, i don’t mean to jump in on your problem, but i am having a similar issue. I had to reinstall my plex server on my nvidia shield, but i only get album artwork for movies A-M. Anything after M (M-Z) displays a black poster. I refresh all metadata and it is always the same! I have attached my log, Moody_blue, if you get a chance could you take a look and see if i’m doing anything strange. I’m not an advanced user, but i know my way around a PC (shame the shield is android).
I have also cleared cache, and tried swapping agents (to no avail).

I have noticed that for the past couple of weeks, new films added will automatically search for content and briefly the poster will show with the first flip and then will disappear to black. All my pre problem films were OK.
I factory reset the Shield and rebuilt the Plex Database from scratch but now none of my films have posters. The TV & Music sections have retrieved the artwork but not films. I can manually look up the poster and it will stay but the refresh all data makes no odds.

Same problem here:
- Posters and thumbnails show up alright on the Windows 10 PC with Plex Version 1.10.1.4602.
- DLNA to my LG Smart TV working fine and thumbnails for Photos, Music, Documentaries, TV Series showing up
- Poster Thumbnails either not showing up or only partially showing up. When browsing it takes ages because browsing stops for about a minute to produce a greyed out thumbnail on the TV. The video files does however play.
- Most confusing of all: thumbnails of photos show up in the movies section through there are NO PHOTOS at all in the subdirectories that are added to the movies library
- The Plex App for LG SmartTV does however work and shows all poster thumbnails correctly. I do however hate this App as it requires a login with a 4 letter code via e.g. the smartphone - every time. Any way to stop that nonsense ? Could not find and answer in the manual or forum.
This all happens with a completely fresh scan for all libraries and the database in a completely new location and only for DLNA streaming
