Plex not using local media artwork

Server Version#: 1.41.3.9314
Player Version#: 4.143.0

I run a Plex server on my Mac Mini for video and another Plex server on my Synology NAS for music.

I added a master folder of my music to my library. When I look at the artwork on the individual tracks, most of them are incorrect and do not use the artwork embedded within the MP3 files. For the added music library, I enabled the following in Advanced settings: Prefer local metadata, Album Art—Local Files only.

I tried clearing the cache on the main Plex server and then rescanning the entire library, but the issue was not fixed.

I validated that the .mp3 files had the correct artwork, I double checked the files in File Station on the NAS and the artwork is correct on the filesystem. So it is Plex that is somehow not recognizing or using the artwork within the individual files.

I tried deleting the Music library and creating a new library, and the same situation occurred.

Would you have any suggestions on how to force Plex to display the correct artwork?

There is no artwork for individual tracks. Plex has only support for Album Art. i.e. all track on a specific album share the same cover.
If you have an album where each track has a different embedded cover art, it is a matter of chance which is selected for the album.

Plex doesn’t recognize the album of my tracks even though the metadata of the individual tracks indicate which album the track belongs to. So if a track has an album identified, where does Plex get the artwork for the album if it doesn’t get it from the individual file?
