Plex on Hisense U8H not passing through lossless audio

First issue is with PLEX app streaming from my local media server. It seems all of my TRUEHD 7.1 ATMOS files are being transcoded. Does this TV not support TRUEHD ATMOS or is this a PLEX issue? Audio passthrough is set to HDMI in PLEX settings. Is passthrough of TRUEHD and other lossless codecs not working for any brand/model TV with Android/Google TV os using internal apps? If so why is this a limitation? Are manufacturers just not implementing it in their version of Google/Android TV OS? Or is there some licensing the manufacturers are cheaping out on? Is it a android os issue? You would think a new modern tv would support every codec a streaming service provides at least pass it though to a external AVR over eARC that is capable of playing it.

Next with PLEX what seems like all 4K or 1080p, HDR and SDR files that should be 24Hz refresh rate are being reported as 48Hz in the signal information page on the U8H. Although all my Dolby Vision files are reporting 24Hz refresh rate. Is this a known issue? Refresh rate switching is on and resolution switching is on in PLEX settings.

Server Version#: 1.29.1.6276
Player Version#: 9.9.0.35519

Licenses and Codecs.

Audio passthrough only works with an external device like a Blue Ray Player or Nvidia Shield. The Plex app only has access to the codecs provided by the manufacturer. If there is a license involved then no.

Thanks for the reply. I dont get the point of smart TV operating systems then. Just make a dumb TV that only has picture settings if we need to add another device to fully support apps.

The goal is

PMS → Plex Player → HDMI → AVR → HDMI eARC → TV

In that configuration the Plex Player might be an ATV4K, Shield Pro, XBox etc.
Asking the TV to be a computer and run apps is asking a lot, as you noticed.

To find out why Plex made the decisions it did, you can enable debug mode on server and player, power cycle them, have a coffee, demonstrate the problem with one atmos file for a minute, download logs, zip and drop them intro your reply.

The word “decision” will be found in your Plex Media Server.log when it does this, but you have to scroll up and down a lot to find see the whole context and what the final decisions are and why they are made.
