Plex on LG TV does not play "Plex Video Files" Libraries

My LG TV decided today to update my version of Plex. New version looks very different from the previous one.

I have 6 libraries on my Plex Server: 1xFilms, 1xMusic, 1xTV Programmes and 2xOther Videos. The new TV player version only showed 4. After much investigation it turned out that the issue was with the “Other Videos” type. Switched these to “Plex Movie” and they are now showing up?

Has anyone else had this issue and is there a better way to fix it?

That version of the webOS app was released 5 years ago and is the final version supported on webOS 2. All subsequent versions require webOS 3 and newer.

So, not really sure what you are seeing with regards to an update.

I don’t know how things work on LG TVs (interacting with Plex) but I should have mentioned that I have just updated the Plex Media Server. It has been running for years on Windows Server 2012R2. I tried to update it to the latest version but it would not install so I upgraded one of my servers to Windows Server to 2019 and moved Plex Media Server to the new box. There must be some interaction between the TV and Media Server which triggered LG to say “an updated version of Plex is available”??

Either way if you say that is the last version available on WebOS 2 then it looks like I am stuck with it.

It might be an option to add a recent streaming box or stick to your setup to handle the smart tv / application aspect.

Some clients will display if there’s a server update and even allow triggering an update. Maybe that’s what you saw.
