Plex on NAS 720+ stopped playing certain mp4 (mpeg4) inside, laptop server plays them fine

Server Version#: DSM 6.2.3-25426 Update 2
Player Version#: 4.12.3

All of a sudden the Plex server on my NAS stopped playing certain videos. Mp4 with the (mpeg4) inside. I had a complete ripped series of Zorro for example and had been playing them for a couple of weeks. Now they will not play. I installed Plex onto a spare laptop and they run perfectly there. I uninstalled Plex on the server and deleted the shared folders. Reinstalled and same issue. I’m lost and have spent two or three days chasing my tail.

Please include the DEBUG enabled log files (do not enable VERBOSE logging).

More often than not, when a PC can play a file which the NAS cannot , it’s because of subtitle burning (PGS, VOBSUB, or DVDRIP) which are image based.

Subtitles must be handled by the CPU and the Synology CPUs are woefully underpowered . The hardware acceleration is great but hardware doesn’t do subtitles so the CPU must. This is where it comes crashing down.

It was working fine a couple of days ago and I decided to move some directories around a bit and then rebuilt the librarys. The videos that did play will not play no matter where I put them now in the directory or libraries. I will figure out how to find the log you are speaking of.

Thanks for the quick replcy.

Hopefully this is what you need. Thanks for such quick help. I’m very new to Plex and really try to find the answers myself but there are so many different issues that sorting the one out that will help me is just near impossible

Doing more digging and even loading the newest version of Plex on the Nas 720+ the plex application will not play many of my recently ripped videos. This is NOT happening on two laptops running Windows 10. So it appears it is a Plex/Nas issue.

I just re-ripped the few of my home movies that would not play and they work fine now. I don’t look forward to ripping or converting over 100 dvd’s
