Bought a Shield recently, hooked up an HDD and went straight into Plex. Pointed it at the external source using the settings under Plex Media Server.
It didn’t pick anything up, so I used the Shield settings itself to reformat the hard drive before transferring some media. Kodi can see and play these files fine.
So I went back into Plex to set up the server and, to my surprise, there was nothing under Plex Media Server in the settings menu anymore. The title is there but there’s no options.
I tried clearing the data on the device, and when I signed back in there was no option to set up Plex Media Server and still nothing under the settings menu. I uninstall and reinstalled the app and found the same.
What’s going on here and how can I get my Media Server installed?
I’ve actually managed to get the server working again by clearing out the data in the media server app, which is hidden by default on the Shield. If you go to settings > apps and then show system apps, it’s down there
However, having succeeded on that, the server doesn’t seem to be able to see the external HDD. When I go to change storage location the only options are internal (system storage location) and internal (user accessible storage location) neither of which, I presume are the HDD.
Is this because I formatted the drive using the Shield, which installs an Android structure? Or is one of those actually the HDD, or is it a permissions issue?
