On my Windows laptop, when I click on the ‘Plex Media Server’ on my taskbar it takes me to the following page: http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html#!/ whic is the same as https://app.plex.tv/desktop/.
When I click on the option to add ‘Your Media’ the page changes and presents me with the option ‘GET PLEX MEDIA SERVER’ which, when selected, takes me to a page to download the media server again, which I already have and which I used to get to this page in the first place.
On my Nvidia Shield I also cannot set it up either. On the support page below it says ‘The first time you run the regular Plex client on the NVIDIA SHIELD, you will be prompted that a Plex Media Server has been detected and allowed to set it up.’ however this doesn’t happen. https://support.plex.tv/articles/221099988-setting-up-and-managing-plex-media-server-on-nvidia-shield/
In the Plex client settings, when I scroll down to ‘Plex Media Server’ there are no options there either, such as ‘Storage Location’.
It all seems as if running and operating the Plex media server is restricted … is it now a paid for service?
Thanks for this. It worked however I’ve realised that my old laptop isn’t coping well as a media server, so I actually wanted to have the Shield as the server. I’ve connected a 2TB Toshiba 2.5" hard drive and selected this as the storage location in the Plex server settings on the Shield however when I select the ‘Shield - Movies’ in Plex it says ‘This library is currently empty. you can use the Plex web app (http://app.plex.tv) to add some media’. Why does it need adding? Doesn’t it just read from the locally connected drive that I’ve selected as the default storage location?
