I dont understand how the Plex app can suck so much on the PS5. It is a 4k HDR console yet the plex app will not play 4k files nor will it play HDR when it does work. Will there be updates to fix the 4k and also enable HDR in the future?

From some of the forum posts I’ve seen, they are hard at work making sure it is a first class experience. Hopefully they’re able to resolve the issues fairly quickly.
Oh I completely understand that it just launched but the track record for plex on consoles isnt that great. Hence my concern. But yes Im hopeful that they are hard at work
They nuked the entire operating system and started over from scratch. This is very much PS5 1.0. Fortunately they’ll be able to fix things with future firmware updates as I suspect it’s more a PS5 than a Plex issue. It’s disappointing since like you I was expecting to use my PS5 for Plex but hopefully the wait won’t be too long before it’s working as it should. Thankfully the launch games are miles better than the PS4 launch lineup was and I’m loving it so far.
Anything I try to watch has significant distortion towards the top of the video, 4k HDR being DRAMATICALLY worse. Like, heavy multi-colored pixelation. Thankfuly my new 900H has awesome native clients, but it shocked me to have my brand new PS5 be flat out unable to use Plex.
Where can I download Plex on my ps5, I can’t search it, only see Netflix, YouTube, twitch, Amazon prime video, but not plex
I m having issues with stuttering or frame drops. not as smooth as the LG TV app ive used for years,
I’ve got a very robust network all wired in and a i7 with 970 gpu but still has issues with stuttering on PS5. But if i turn off direct play/stream setting on the app, no more issues aside from transcoding large HD/1080p file which then buffer constantly.
maybe related to the PS5’s aggresive DCHP and the Plex devs having to get around that.
Under the Media tab go all the way to the left to All Apps and it will be under the Video and music apps section.
There are some region restriction problem, I had to change my UK PSN account to able to see plex
