Hmmm… Haven’t splurged for a PS5 but I have a PS4. Works fine. Streams 4k even. Of course it’s wired. Maybe that’s an issue for you?
It is unbelievably bad on PS5, at least for 4K UHD content. I use my TVs Plex app instead which works damn near flawlessly. I hope they do something to fix it one of these days so I can watch using my headphones.
I have had a lot of issues too, but I find it seems to be using the “original” quality setting. Files won’t be transcoded on “original”, so the PS5 will be passed along whatever encoding your library files have. I’m finding that H.265 files skip forward randomly and even if you rewind to see what you missed, it skips in the same place again. This is with a wired gigabit ethernet to the server and all other devices idle, so I know it’s not the network’s fault.
Setting it to a lower quality transcodes the file to something easy for the PS5 to decode on hardware like H.264, and fixes the issue. The problem I have is that you can’t have original quality AND transcoding to H.264. Plex makes you drop the quality to get a format that plays back decently on the PS5.
