ROKU log in broken with new change removing code log in

Server Version#: Version 1.32.5.7516
Player Version#: Roku 7.7 build 2

Been trying for days to log back into my roku app and finally learned its because the link code feature has been removed. Don’t have an issue with this because its rokus fault, but feel like plex botched the change brutally.

Go to the sign in button at the top of the navigation. options are to sign up for an account via roku or email/pass (i already have an account with plex pass, dont need a new one) or sign in. Clicking sign in only servers to give me the error that a code could not be created. So how are we supposed to enter our log in details???

I apologize for any inconvenience you’ve experienced. Initially, I attempted to replicate the issue but was unsuccessful. Upon closer examination, I conducted a test where plex.tv was intentionally made unreachable (no internet access, and I blocked the site on my network). During this test, I observed that it reverts to the old screen, which appears to be an oversight on our part.

That said, it’s important to note that the Link Screen failing to provide code would also be affect by not having connectivity (specifically connectivity to plex.tv). In theory, if this is the case, the login screen would also encounter issues since it relies on internet connectivity.

In summary, could you please confirm whether your Roku device has a stable internet connection? This will help us further troubleshoot the issue.

One way to check for in our app, is to press back until you see the “Exit Options” screen. Does that have a button to “Go Online”? If that is present, it indicates the Roku is unable to contact our servers.

I have tested on a roku stream bar, tv, and stick. Same issue on different wifi networks or cell hotspots. There is no option to " go online on that page so that doesn’t seem to be the issue. I will try to take a video and upload this afternoon.

I’m having the exact same issue. My post is here. And I can confirm my Roku sticks have stable internet connection, as I can watch Netflix 4k content just fine.

I will let you know if anything useable comes from this thread. FWIW, I do not have 2fa enabled on my server

Link to video of what I am seeing.

I’ve watched the video—thanks for sharing it! Based on what I’ve seen there, and read in the other posts, it seems like these Roku devices are unable to contact plex.tv, causing the error message. This issue is also why the sign-in process isn’t displaying the keyboard for entering credentials as expected. I understand it may sound a bit unusual, but it’s likely due to an oversight in how we check plex.tv for information required to proceed to the credentials screen.

However, all of this information I’ve just provided isn’t the main focus right now. Let’s work together to identify why this issue is happening. To do that, we’ll need some logs. Could those experiencing the problem please follow these steps?

  1. Open the Plex channel.
  2. Navigate to settings in the sidebar.
  3. Enable local logging (remember to take note of the URL).
  4. Close the channel.
  5. On the home screen, press the * button while the Plex channel is highlighted.
  6. Choose “Restart Channel.” (If that option isn’t available, simply open the channel)
  7. Attempt to sign in to replicate the issue.
  8. Access the URL mentioned in step 3 using a web browser.
  9. Save those logs and send them to me via DM.

Thanks!

DM’d you my log file. Hope it helps.

I’ve DM’d you my log as well

So the latest verion 7.8 build 4 still exhibits the same behavior

Any word on if this is getting fixed? I basically have either a plex pass that is worthless to me now, or a bunch of roku devices that i can no longer use remotely when i travel for work or visit family at this point.

 @jakeslominski ~ sorry for the delay. I took a look at the logs. We can see that every call to plex.tv is failing with -35:OpenSSL SSL_connect: SSL_ERROR_SYSCALL. This is what is causing the wrong screen to be displayed, but even if the screen to use credentials was shown, it would fail too. I can’t tell from the logs why this is failing, but it’s definitely not a know issue or one that is system wide. Let’s see if we can trace this down.

Can you verify a few things

  • The roku is connected to the same WiFi network as your server (mainly because we’ll want to check something from the computer, and want to be on the same network with the same DNS servers)
  • Are you running any ad-blockers, pi-hole, dnsmasq? something that may change what plex.tv resolves to?
  • From your computer, can you ping plex.tv to see what IP it resolves to. (don’t worry when the ping request fail as those are blocked by default).
  • If you are on linux/mac, can you run dig plex.tv & nslookup plex.tv and include the results

@stuckwi ~ it looks like you are experiencing a different issue. I can see from your logs that you can connect to plex.tv and you are seeing the credential screen. It does look like your account needs to reset the password. Our app should have been displaying a message mentioning that, but from the logs it look like that isn’t happening. Can you try clicking the forgot password in the sign-in screen to follow that flow? Once that has been done, you should be able to authenticate with the new password, and then it should prompt for your 2FA code.

They are connected to the same network. Server is wired and roku is wireless. Not running any sort of ad blockers. DNS servers are at router level and have tried both ISP assigned and google dns with no variation in results.

Those results look accurate.

  • Is there any way you could try connecting to another network, just temporarily? like a mobile hotspot.
  • What is the Roku Model and OS version?

I have run from mobile hotspot and it was the exact same issue. I didn’t pull logs when testing it on hotspot, but I can try that and upload later this evening when I get home.

As for models, I have tried on Roku TVs, Roku Streambar Pro, and Roku Stream bar. Again, I will get exact numbers and OS when I get home, but every time you’ve posted for me to test something out, I have confirmed that all devices are on latest version of OS and Plex build before running any test.

Also tried just this past week on my travel Roku while in a hotel for work and it was same issue too if that helps any.

Roku Model is 9101R2 and OS 12.0.0.0 build 4184-95. Plex app on roku is v 7.8 build 4

Also connected to mobile hotspot and re ran ping, dig, and nslookup from my mac and will DM you logs from the roku plex app per your instructions 10 days ago but on mobile hotspot this time. Not sure if there is a difference, but thought it could help to throw them out there.
