Plex on Samsung and LG Smart TV become slow and lagging interface

Same here. The fact that there is almost no feedback and they still havent solved the basic problems I ve started setting up a jellyfin environment.

We are not the only one with problems. Even Linus from Linus Tech Tips is reaching a point to switch.

I’ve noticed that the Plex interface speed on my 2018 Tizen Samsung TV has become significantly worse in the last several months. The performance now is downright laughable - it takes upwards of 10 seconds just to load a basic screen. Meanwhile, other apps on my TV, like Apple TV and Netflix, run as smooth as butter and everything loads instantly. My Plex server is connected to the same local network so there’s no latency or bandwidth issue. Videos play fine, no problems there. It’s just the interface is achingly slow. I don’t know what ā€œfeaturesā€ the Plex client devs have been adding, but please take them out, since the interface is almost unusable at this point. I’ll take responsiveness over features any day of the week. Hopefully they fix this soon!

I have a current LG C2. And everything jerks when navigating in the menu. It runs choppy and not smoothly. Why?

I’m sorry, but I have to be straightforward: this is due to poor programming. When I bought the LG OLED B9, the Plex app was smooth and fast (version 4.x I believe). It was only after there was a major update of the Plex app that this happened. And don’t tell me it’s due to the weak processing of the TV because all other apps work well, including Plex’s competitors. What is clear is that this problem is clearly not a priority; or they don’t have the right programmers (which doesn’t seem to me).

Maybe an update from @sLumpy would be good at this stage… At least letting us know the progress.

Good luck… I chased him back in November as there had been no update for 6 months back then.

Heard nothing since.

I feel like Plex is getting slower and slower. I takes a good few minutes to login and then show the main screen

Anyone know who the other Plex staff are on the forum? Can we request direct help with this?

Yeah ok this is now beyond help. The app is simply unusable. It took 30 seconds for it to load and every key press takes 10 seconds to take effect. Does it mine Bitcoin? What the ā– ā– ā– ā–  is it using my TV for? How can a single app be SO slow? Especially when every other app functions perfectly fine. This is ridiculous.

Why is Plex just ignoring this? I have stopped recommending Plex to people at this point. Specially if they have an LG.

Talk to us Plex, we know you reading this! It won’t go away.

It’s OK though as they have the Plexcerpts email out today, loads of great features being worked on…

Maybe try fixing the bugs! :frowning:

I really wish they would do something about the performance of the app. Nice features keeps coming in but the performance is getting worse and worse. I wish it’s as smooth as it was back then, like how consistently smooth Netflix and other related app are.

Personally I don’t expect it to be as slick as Netflix. We’re not comparing apples and oranges.
BUT the speed of responsiveness and level of support needs work.
Is there a bug fix work timeline anywhere?

Any news on whats going on with the plex client getting slower and slower after each update

I see new features are being added but old issues are just being left as per usual

I rather plex gave an option and made a lite version of the app for us who dont want all these extra fancy features to keep the app running fast and smooth

@sLumpy Just wondering if any Plex staff are reading these posts or whether we need to contact in another way?

There is no single fix that will solve all the performance issues. Performance fixes are incremental because there are multiple pieces contributing to the performance problems and we are tackling them when we can. It’s a matter of getting the resourcing to spend more time on it. It’s important to us though, and even though we aren’t always replying on this thread, performance is always something we are discussing and looking at internally.

What I’m getting from this comment is that we’re not getting any fix for this, ever.

While the contributing factors to the current performance issues may be many, it DID happen overnight. There most definitely WAS a version over a year ago that was working perfectly fine before you changed something and either you don’t know what that is or it was a fundamental change you can’t go back on.

I kinda agree at this point that unless the performance is fixed there is no point in continuing to develop for these platforms.

@sLumpy you may as well pack up and head home if this is as good as the performance gets honestly, because no one is bothering with the Samsung Tizen Platform and Plex anymore. Why bother updating it? (Which is what you support) going forwards.

Saying there is any Plex support for Samsung Tizen OS is a joke at this point, and Plex keeps adding features we don’t care about or plan to use. The primary use case is to stream from my media library to my Samsung TV and Plex can’t even do that right anymore.

People are fleeing to Reddit looking to Sideload older builds to their Samsung TV.
older versions of plex for samsung tv tizen : PleX (reddit.com)

At this point I’d recommend scrapping everything since the last official Plex Preview, or at least re-upload the preview .tmg files so we can rule out an App specific issue?

For anyone wondering you can sideload the Plex app to your Samsung TV with the following steps (assuming Plex gives us one of their old archived copies to troubleshoot this):

Instructions:

  1. Uninstall the existing Plex application
  2. Download the .zip release above
  3. On your USB stick, create a folder called userwidget
  4. Unzip the contents of the .zip file into the userwidget folder you just created
  5. Turn on the TV
  6. Plug in the USB drive into your Samsung UHD device. Installation should start automatically.
  7. Run the App from your Smart Hub, or from the App store.

I’ll also be directing most Plex exectuves and Staff I can to this form:

Executive Bios | Plex
Members - moderators - Plex Forum

This needs more visibility. I’ll PM every single one if I need too until Plex stops taking peoples money and actually addresses issues.

Please don’t. https://forums.plex.tv/guidelines
