There was nothing in the release notes to indicate any performance improvements …
Maybe reinstalling the app (any version) clears some cache or other and solves really bad performance issues some users seem to have, but we’re still waiting for the update to improve generally poor UI performance for everyone.
Hmmm, I got the LG Webstore App (container) update, which for me hasn’t been updated since late last year or early this year, at first i figured it was just the logo update since I saw that, but ive gone back in a few times and it’s still quite speedy for me. I feel it might be a cache thing as you stated, I’ll keep an eye out to see it starts to slow down.
I have no idea what happened but since the last minor update on LG it got gradually better and more responsive. I did not remove, just updated from the LG app store.
The only other change I made was to remove one user from my server.
Today the app is very responsive and not flickering when you move the cursor around etc.
Good news.
Just an update, we do have some stuff in place now that will allow us to improve performance, but will require work converting existing screens to use it. This will take time to do and isn’t something done easily, so the improvements will come gradually. We are well aware of the performance though, it’s a matter of getting resources scheduled to work on it.
Yes, I have a problem with that too on LG app. In the case of movies, it is manifested by the lack of subtitles at the beginning of the movies (5-10 minutes - the movie must be played for this time without rewinding) and at the end of the movie (about 30 minutes to the end), while in series there are no subtitles for 2 minutes. It does not matter if the subtitles are in srt or txt format and external or downloaded in the Plex app.
Now it seems to operate on secure connections again; did I miss when this change happened?
Is this apart of the infrastructure changes you are mentioning? Or is there more work being done asides from the secure connections working again to improve performance which we are still waiting on?
Generally; it’s much better now; I would say loading and selecting movies isn’t an issue…
But when I load TV show libraries with some 14 plus seasons and 50GB+ of shows; it seems to lag or freeze for upwards of 30 seconds to 2 minutes before actually playing the episode I want.
Thanks for your work on this issue for my older 2017 Samsung.
The experience is just becoming worse and worse on my LG C8. Now when i open a movie screen, the entire UI hangs for upwards of 5 seconds before it loads the actors and other info. Almost like it waits for a bunch of blocking network requests. The wifi (AC) is able to stream 100+ mbit movies without any issues, and my internet is 500/500 fiber internet. No issues with the same server on other clients.
Slowness has started to impact playback features for me. Jumping back 3 times quickly makes the entire app hang for a long time, sometimes requiring a forced exit (long press on the back button for Samsung TVs). It’s really bumming that it’s only getting worse, I really was hoping I won’t have to get a dedicated media streaming device.
Plex on my NU8000 ia getting worst. Latest version maybe look nice but is very laggy. Frequent black screen, slow loading, player controls not appering and frequent freezing when you hit back. I always forced closing the app. I can hear my controls ticking when i hit button on my remote but plex is not responding. I made sure already that all my media are x264&x265 with eac3 and aac +srt subs for the sake of plex convinience. This oftens happen on 4K movies. It plays quickly but when you hit center on the button to show player controls it will either show nothing then you hit back you get black screen and freezes all the way. Not sure if the issue is on my tv or the app is plain buggy. I am starting to hate Plex on my tv to be honest.
Do I need a new TV?
