Plex on Samsung and LG Smart TV become slow and lagging interface

Behaviour such as attacking Plex, its employees, or spamming all employees is in breach of our forum guidelines, and may result in warnings or suspensions.

In my opinion there is no need for this… Plex emplooyees are doing their job directed by a private company which (for its own nature) looks for profits.

Personally I would rather pay a small subscription amount (lesser then the plex pass) in order to have a decent (well actually… more than decent) app on my lg tv. Please consider this if what you need are additional resources to put on developing your software, even though it would be better to redirect those currently dedicated to new features and optimize the existing code.

Currently the app is ruining the entire experience with plex, which is a wonderful piece of software.

Already done

I’ll just refund my money then from the VISA.
You guys are scam artists instead of dealing with anything head on you want to take money away from people monthly and ignore them or their requests to the point that huge Youtube personalities are making videos on how cr*ppy your service is.

You want people to follow your guidelines? Then people follow the peoples guidelines that are paying for the service!

Also I’ve already gone past the forums and personally messaged executives on this issue. Best of luck!

Thanks!

See above reply! Thanks!

For the many people in this thread.

This is how Plex employees like to deal with their paying customers.
It’s not a open source project, it’s not run on donations.

Plex - Piece of advise. Stop acting like it is. Any normal business that takes a monthly fee and doesn’t have any proper support is also a joke.

Stop trying to hide behind your forum ā€œguidelinesā€ like I care if you ban me from the Forums.
What I care about is you guys opening your eyes to the issues posted everywhere over the internet OVER AND OVER again and just collecting money without even a REPLY to address everything.

Thanks!

HELP Please.
What are the steps to sideloading the Plex for LG app that worked well about a year ago?
Do I need to sideload the LG platform to a former version? If so, anyone know those?

Current:
Plex for LG app v.5.55.2 Platform 4.9.0
LG WebOS 5.3.25

Do you or anyone know how to do this on LG?

There is NO app as such on your TV. What you see and is sometimes updated, is just a loader. Every time you start up Plex on your Smart TV your actually loading the app and connecting to your Server Content storage.

But this maybe what your asking about.

It’s honestly a real shame.

Randomly around October the new Samsung App made it (almost) unusable.

I had to reduce the video quality down to the lowest setting within the Samsung app itself to just get it to stream without buffering every 7 seconds.

So now I don’t watch anything in the bedroom… Maybe something I don’t have to watch, just background noise because the video quality is horrendous.

Thankfully my LG in the living rooms works. I will update this post with the make/model/software version/app software version just for reference.

But this thread does not give me the warm and fuzzies that Plex cares at all.

I’ll be testing Jellyfish soon enough I guess…

Please reproduce the buffering issue and provide logs.

  • enable log to server in the app
  • reproduce problem
  • grab server logs and post them here

lets hope plex actually do something and stop adding new useless features in which not only becomes a complete waste but makes the apps even slower due to not working on past features and fixing them and optimising them first

take a step back plex and fix what you currently have… only then should you add new features once all your older features work at there best

why not just make a lite version of plex for users like me who just want to stream our media and are not interested in all the other fancy rubbish… your older versions on my bedroom tv " samsung nu8000" worked great and was quick… now its just slow and sluggish and i wonder how can plex mess something up like this when it was great before… even EAC3 cant be correctly done by plex without it having to transcode… play same file via usb or emby and no issues

come on plex sort this out as my S95b oled isn’t exactly old!!

What can we do to help you Plex devs? There must be something that can be acknowledged and fixed for this issue?

People at the moment we have to be happy.

Today I’ve bought the Nvidia Shield Tv installed PLEX.

Eventhough the interface was faster/smoother and the fast forward etc was faster with less buffering.

The quality sucks. (With everything set to max and direct stream).
Not sharp, contrast not good, and it feels choppy.

Switching back to the tv app (LG)

I have never had issues with Plex on any other device(Laptop, PC, Tablet, Phone, Roku) but I have a brand new Samsung Smart TV and it gets to the point that it’s unusable. And it doesn’t take much. If I scroll through too many videos on my server it lags to the point I have to do a hard reset. Then I have to run ā€œdevice careā€ to clear it out of the memory. It is pretty ridiculous that my $40 Roku can run it perfectly, but my $1,000+ TV struggles.

Have you got all the server logs to send to the devs?

Wish plex would make a basic version of the plex app which didnt bog down the tvs so much

Was never this bad last year till they started adding all the extra features no one hardly even uses

A plex lite would be good so can least start over and optimise app coding

Cheeky,
my family does use these extra features and enjoy. Can you state the model of your device as some models have low spec processors.

Hence the reasons to why a plex lite app would work well even if i got to sideload it… theres plenty of us who can help test newer versions via sideloading even if they made a beta channel so we can help to make a better app

I have two S95b and a nu8000

Low spec processors arnt the whole reason since older versions of the app were quicker till all the extra features came in… bad optimisation of the app coding which needs working on… tizen is a pain to work with let alone to get approved for apps
