Plex on Samsung and LG Smart TV become slow and lagging interface

Thank you streik for confirming the subtitle problem on 2016 Samsung TVs.
My Mom & Stepdad have a Samsung 2016 TV (UE55KS8080) and they told me that recently subtitles started to disappear after a while. So they can’t watch a whole movie with subs.

I don’t know how to fix that problem. None of my devices has that subtitle-disappearing issue.

Also been having issues for months, just on the Samsung TV (Sony’s working great).

I tried setting up Emby on my Plex machine, and was amazed how snappy their smart tv app was.

Plex really needs to look at their competition.

I might be wrong here but i think plex has hardcoded the app instead of just launching a web interface like youtube or emby does.

I am having the same issue. My LG OLED with WebOS 5.60.15 is now unbearably slow and laggy.

Just this week it now won’t connect to my server at all. I can login but it cannot connect to my server even though it is on the same local network. All other streaming services like Netflix connect and work fine. I can also connect and stream to other Plex devices like my phones, tablets and the web app on the server itself.

I have deleted and re-installed the app, reset the app, restarted PMS, restarted the PC with PMS and nothing has got Plex working on my LG TV again.

Any chance of another response from the Plex team please?

Is the LG app fixed in the next release and when will the next release be?

Thanks

Just adding my $0.02. Brand new Samsung UE65AU9000 with a brand new install of the Plex app, it works great apart from the menus (and even, annoyingly, entering pins on the switch user menu) being unbearably slow. I think I may have to plug the MiBox back in to use Plex which is a shame as it was nice to have it all built in. I know performance issues are the hardest thing to diagnose but hopefully you Plex devs can reproduce the issue and are on it.

This is heading nowhere at all. The new Plex app is completely broken and I guess we should move on to something better (-> Emby).

sure, pay for Emby Premiere too, like we have nothing else to pay for…

I’ve fixed the lagging on my tv!
After setting ‘Allow insecure connections’ and ‘Prefer insecure connections’ to preferred instead of mandatory, Plex is behaving as it should again.

I can’t remember changing this setting and it wasn’t obvious to me that this needed changing, so I am hoping sharing this fix will help some of you as well.
Just hope that haven’t made my home network vulnerable by changing these settings…

Hey there;

That was a “known issue” with Samsungs and LGs.

Important information about Plex for smart TVs after September 30, 2021 - Announcements - Plex Forum

I think this thread is specifically for only the laggy interface alone.
I should mention my Samsung got the update discussed by [sLumpy] some 28 days ago.

It’s better; but still not perfect.

Anything new about the extreme lag on Samsung TV:s? Any ETA when the UI lag will be resolved?

I really hope they are still working on this. But since it’s taking so long I’m thinking of buying a nvidia shield. Still hopeful though😅

I got Plex client update yersterday. Player Version 5.29.1 now. New design but same performance issue. Plex team completly ignore this issue.

Just tested the new version. True still slow and laggy but they have fixed the subs problem

Plex client version 5.30.1 has finally fixed my lagging issues on LG TV 55UH615V from 2016.

Samsung Q9FN and Plex client version 5.30.1 Still have performance issue.

Q6FN here running 5.30.1. Noticing no difference when it comes to the slow interface. Even turning off animations, it still feels sluggish and laggy.

Tested client version 5.30.1 on lg c7 oled.
Still laggy and slow but the new modern layout feels better than before.

Samsung UE8000, still unbelievably slow. Considering buying a small PC, this is frustrating.
