Plex on Samsung and LG Smart TV become slow and lagging interface

Same here. Happening on both Samsungs - one is from 2019, the other is a brand new Neo QLED. What’s up Plex? Can I go to an older version? I and my friends just se a loading icon most of the time!

I don’t know what happened.

The app was slightly better with the app update from a week ago.
Today I’ve updated the PMS and it would appear that the TV app has become slower again as before the latest app update.

(i have a LG C7).

Dear Plex support. Would it be possible to introduce (next to modern and classic) a LIGHT version?

Happening still. IN fact the video quality on Samsung (new 2020 model, Tizen based) is horrrible even for 4K or 1080p video. What is Plex doing, how is this app becoming worse and slower with every “update”?

Setting the secure connection settings to “always” also massively improved this issue for me. I don’t see how they could be related but it definitely helped.

Great to receive the Plexcerpts today.
All those platform updates…
Nothing for LG or Samsung.

Please can a dev or spokesperson for Plex respond to this issue. Most of us are paying good money for this product and it’s getting the basics wrong at the moment. Fix the issues instead of developing new features.

Thank you.

Hi Plex admin,
Could you please drop a small info message in this forum?
Even if the message is “we are working on it” we would appreciate it.

At the moment we don’t even know if this problem is currently on your radar.

In addition, please tell us if the OS or Clients that we are using isn’t suitable anymore for the new PLEX. If so, it would be very unfortunate, but this would at least make things more clear about your position for certain Clients. For example, in my case I would know not to wait for a future update and may concider buying a NVIDIA shield.

In other words please be more clear to your userbase.

Many thx for your time.

@sLumpy

Are you able to comment please?

I’m actively working on some infrastructure for improving performance.

Great to hear. Thank you

Thank you for the reply.

I don’t find it a deal breaker but definitely it is not up to Plex stated and expected standards.

I can still watch my shows and find it is provocatively stimulating the new UX, with at times a discouraging lag. Some settings do make it worse. I wonder the startup and loading being the biggest peeve with all the extra screen graphics that mean little to the subscriber. Are these just calmer, to hide the Web based app characteristics of launch?

Just going to add my input that this update has rendered the Plex tv app almost completely unusable for me, regardless of theme.

My TV is a ‘50" KU6020 6 Series UHD HDR Smart TV’ and Plex has just been getting so progressively worse over the past 3 to 4 years on it that it’s absolutely ridiculous.

I remember before this the whole interface was smooth as butter and there was no delay at all in navigating between menus, it felt as smooth as Netflix. Currently I literally have to wait up to a second between button presses before anything happens. Once playback starts it seems to work fine, but my god is it frustrating trying to get to that point. Trying to find something to watch by browsing collection? Absolutely forget about it, impossible.

The same server performs incredibly on a browser or through a console when my partner brings hers over, so it’s absolutely just a problem with the app itself. I’ve factory reset the TV to double check and it’s still unusable…

Version 5.34.1 has just been released. Still no performance improvements.

How is the update on the infrastructure going for the app?

As it would definitely be great to have an update on what may possibly be causing the issues of slowness / lag when using the app on samsung / lg tv’s

With each update seems to come worse performance within the app… the old ui design worked well but lately with the new ui it is just a crawling mess with large libraries of content

Really hope it gets fixed

Interestingly, I was logged out and all my preferences lost yesterday. After logging back in, there were a few minutes of Plex running blazingly fast! Animations were as smooth as the Netflix app. But coming back a few hours later and everything was the same slow barely functioning UI. Now that I know it’s capable, perhaps there’s hope

which means that it can work fast but it is loading something at a later stage which is causing the lag problem. Hmmm… interesting.

Yup same issue here. Plex is supper lagy on Samsung TV. Im moving back to Emby it runs so much better. I hope you can fix this Plex

How’s it coming together sLumpy? Has it been released or still in development? Thanks

Didn’t know about this, thanks it works great for my not too complicated use-case

The infrastructure work is complete, we’re in the process of migrating things over to it, but it’ll be a slow process. There’s a lot of moving pieces we’re trying to coordinate.
