Plex on WD MyCloudPR4100 was working fine. Then after adding some files I can longer access the server. I got the message The server “MyCloudPR4100” is unavailable. However the Wd drive is accessible via my mac desktop finder. Can You please tell how can I fix this problem
It depends on what happened that’s causing it to be unavailable.
I have 2 suspicions.
- The processor is maxed out indexing and adding the new files rendering the plex software unable to communicate. This happens on underpowered devices a lot.
- The private/network IP address changed for the server and it’s now being blocked by port forwarding issues… This is less likely, but is still possible.
Thanks for your help. I think you are right, the problem is the processor is maxed out. As I deleted 15 GB from the WD drive and restarted it and then it worked fine.
I would suggest using the WD Drive as a NAS storage solution, but running the plex server software on a pc. The reason I say this is because of what happened when just adding a bunch of movies maxed out the processor. No telling what will happen when it goes to transcode a file. You’re far better off leaving the laborious task of database management to a PC than to a cheap NAS solution.
Oh great thank for the advice. Can You refer me to resources on how to do this?
Thanks really appreicate it
Mount the drive for your platform:
And once that’s done, just point the libraries to your NAS Folder structure of the appropriate type.
