Plex losing connection on WD My Cloud EX4100

Hi All,

Been using Plex for some time now and love it. Having nightmares with my WD My Cloud Ex4100 however. I’m on my 3rd NAS now as the other 2 kept freezing up and the only way to reboot was to unplug the power cord. This latest one is not doing that. I’m able to access the admin page for the server. However after a few days Plex no longer is accessible. I can reboot the NAS but that doesn’t always fix it. Usually I need to uninstall the Plex App on the server and reinstall. Any ideas what might be happening and how to fix it?

I can ping the NAS IP. I have a Comodo firewall that has the port forwarded global ruleset set up. It works for a few days, then nothing. The Site cannot be reached…refused to connect. On my devices they all say the server is offline within Plex. (But the server is up and I’m able to use the admin page and access any files on it.)

I have the PR4100, but had the same problem. My PR4100 would usually (or always?) say “Power Loss Detected” on the display - which was very strange since the NAS is plugged into a UPS. This was happening a few times a week. Like you, I was able to see the drives, but Plex could not reconnect (until I power cycled the NAS). When I power cycled the NAS, it would take perhaps an hour until I could again connect with Plex. Unlike you, I never had to uninstall the Plex App on the server (although I’ll admit that many times I would play around with Plex App versions).
The PR4100 has a 2nd external power input … so I bought a 2nd (higher power - 90W) power supply, and that seems to have eliminated the problem (no problems for more than a month). I think the as-supplied 19V (60W?) power must have been a bit under powered for fully-populated (Drives & Memory) PR4100.
Hope this helps.
