Plex on windows 10 very slow

Hi,

I’m using plex for a very long time with many device. (mac, iPhone, iPad, chromecast, ps4) from a server synology. I never have any issue.

I just bought a pc for gaming.
I7 4770k
Geforce gtx 970
32go de ram

When i browse in my plex Library everything is fine, but when i lauch a video it’s so slow, about 2 frames per second.
I don’t understand what wrong. I did many check:

  • all driver up to date
  • playing with VLC is fine
  • tried to disable spdif and switch to hdmi audio
  • tried many setting in plex (audio video)
  • checked if my server is still working with another device
  • re-install plex home theater

Norhing worked …

do you have an idea about my issue ?

thx a lot

alex

What is your connection speed to your server? Wifi or Cable connect?

Ethernet gigabyte benchmarked

Using the Plex app in Windows?

Yes the last version

Synology Server model # please

Ds1812+ Max ram

As I say it’s work in all my devices even phone

I took a look at the CPU passmark score on your system. I can see why different devices have different outcomes. Passmark rates the CPU of your NAS @ 840. According to the Plex server requirements you will need a 2000 passmark score per 1080 stream. As soon as you need to transcode something you will run into a hardware wall of sorts. Your other devices are most likely doing direct play, which means no transcoding required.

It all boils down to your system doesn’t seemed to be spec’d with the necessary hardware requirements. Sorry…

And you really think with a gigabit network and GeForce gtx 970 I cannot have direct play ???

The Plex Windows app does not call upon the codecs installed on your system. It is a forced transcode whenever you use the app.

Thank a lot to help me but you’re looking in wrong direction. And btw my nas can transcode for my phone in 2mb to 12mb if I stay in my country or far away

Oh ok, I didn’t know about that in Windows. That’s mean we can’t have direct play in Windows ?

If you use the web app through your browser it should work fine.

Now everything make sense. I understand my problem. Thank you for your help

You’re welcome… Have a great weekend.

If you look through the Plex for Windows app log you can determine why a transcode is happening (https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201515547-Windows-8-1-Logs)
