"your connection to this server is not fast enough" - windows plex client watching from local

Hi. Why would this ever be the case? I never see this message on my Shield but from time to time this does happen on Windows.

  1. Gigabit
  2. Wired connection
  3. Only one stream
  4. The same videos in MPC Classic play perfectly, start up fast and I can move around playback with 0 issues

The other weird issue is that sometimes the client will decide to transcode even though direct play is enabled.

What client are you using?

Windows 10 store client

Try using the Windows 10 desktop application that you download from this website. The Windows store app very often has to request transcoding, which could account for the issues you see.

Oh didn’t even realize there was a client you could download. I’ll give it a try thanks!

Did you mean Plex Media Server? Only seeing that as an option

UPDATE - figured it out.

No, Plex Media Player. Downloads, Download an App, pick Plex Media Player for Windows.

I’ve actually been getting this, within the last few days, on my Plex Web cilent.

Logging in on wifi, with my phone, tells me that I am indirectly accessing my server even though they’re on the same LAN. Not sure if this is because of my server’s VPN though… but really that should never happen on the same LAN

Yeah, I noticed it after. Hidden away but wow what a difference. I should have checked in on this instead of dealing with the frustration long time ago
