Uhh I pay for it monthly. So maybe you are freeloading. But I am not
@Moussa - Any updates? A bit aggravating that a bug like this is still not fixed almost a month later and we have zero indication as to whether we can even expect a fix in a reasonable timeframe. How is it that an issue like this got a green light from your QA process?
As above…
I agree, can’t be that difficult to fix and should have been prevented by proper QA in the first place.
We’re testing a possible fix and if it passes we’ll get it out as soon as possible. Obviously this should have not passed our internal QA, I can only apologize for that. We’re making changes to our process so that this sort of thing doesn’t happen again.
Please do. When your app works. I love it. It’s great. I even advocate the use of it to friends, family, by standers. Hell anyone who will listen frankly. But when something like this happens, it’s really hard to champion your corner. Everyone make mistakes, changing your processes is clearly you guys learning from it. You get us back up and running and this ends up being just a mere blip on the long illustrious road of using Plex. Then you’ll have a Plex Pass subscriber in me going forward.
Great news Moussa, look forward to it - have literally stopped watching content until it’s resolved, I miss my surround that much.
If you can keep this thread up to date with progress etc that would be great too - thanks!
Same here! I’ve a bunch of stuff on the back log I’m just not watching because, well sudo surround, Pro logic… Ugh… No thanks. It’s like going back to Rola Cola after you’ve tasted Coca Cola. You just cant do it!
Me again! So, any chance this fix has been tested and is getting rolled out today (Friday)? I ask as it would be really awesome if we could use Plex at the weekend on our PS4’s. Having not been able to use it for the last 3 weeks. Cheers.
You have got to be kidding me…
You roll out an update today… PLEX Version 2.01
Well gues what. It doesnt even work. We have the EXACT same problem we’ve had for the last 3 weeks. EXACTLY THE SAME!
No Digital Surround being passed through, if it does its garbled crackly noise. The only way to make it work is to switch the PS4 back to Linear PCM (Dolby Pro Logic)
For crying out loud. Did anyone even test this. It took me all of 30 seconds to see it was busted. STILL!
Forgive me, I fogot to include you both. I was too busy being absolutley dumbfounded.
Hi there. The 2.0.1 update that just went out included a potential fix for the surround sound issue some of you are experiencing. Due to the nature of the issue it’s not possible for us to say if it fixes the issue for everyone. Please let us know if it does or doesn’t resolve the issue for you, as we’re still working with Sony to find a resolution.
Thanks for the feedback @NostalgiaBytes. Have you tried testing different media? Is there any that works correctly?
Some of US? Ok take it from someone who has 4 PS4’s in the house hooked up to 4 different amps/surround setups.
It doesn’t work on ANY of them, whether that’s having the digital sound passthrough via HDMI directly into the AV Receiver or via TosLink into the AV Receiver.
I would bet my left lung if I brought any PS4 to your office with any brand of AV Receiver I could show you it doesn’t work.
I seriously have to ask on behalf of PLEX PASS users (because they actually pay for this product) Why at this stage won’t you roll back to the Plex version we all ran before the 14th of August. Because THAT works. Because at this point, it’s nothing more than taking us all for a ride and the excuses insult our intelligence.
We have the same problem in ver. 2.0.1 in Poland
Just received the 2.01 update and I can confirm it’s working properly now! Surround sound works on all my media I’ve tried so far(AAC, PCM, etc).
2.01 fixed it for me. thanks !
So after some exhaustive testing this is what I have found (which would explain why its working for some and not others). After even more testing, I’ve narrowed it down further, which is why I have edited this post to be more concise and to the point than it originally was.
The problem is with the PS4 when you have it set to Dolby Bitstream. If you play media which is encoded in AC3 it will crackle like crazy. If you play media encoded in Dolby Tru HD5.1/7.1 all you hear is silence.
If you switch the PS4 over to DTS (Bitstream) it should by and large work for everyone. Assuming your AV equipment supports DTS.
Prior to this update AC3 didnt work regardless of whether the PS4 was set to Dolby or DTS. However now it seems to work under DTS.
It’s an improvment over the last build (if you can decode dts), but it is still a country mile from the build we all had prior to the 14th August, which would play all formats under both Dolby and DTS bitstream modes on the PS4.
This is why some are saying their problem is resolved and others are reporting no change. We likely all have our PS4 set to either Dolby or DTS bitstream.
For the time being I recommend everyone switch to DTS Bitstream under the PS4 audio settings until Plex can figure out what they’ve screwed the pooch with on the Dolby side of things.
Same as NostalgiaBytes said.
The solution seems to be to switch to DTS even if your audio is AC3 Dolby.
In summary, the dolby digital is not solved. As for the DTS, it’s all good.
Can confirm that 2.01 surround sound is working again but not optimally. Initially only DTS was working and not AC3. I experimented and switched to DTS output from the PS4 audio settings and also unchecked Dolby Digital Plus (EAC3) from the Plex audio settings. Not sure which setting fixed it, but AC3 surround is functioning again. Please be cautious with any future updates or at least address them in a timely manner. Thank you.
